Oklahoma State Game to be played on Friday, Nov 18

More than likely, the fact that it is televised will hurt attendance. Not everyone can get out of work early enough to get over to the game early, and combined with typically frigid weather for that week (where attendance normally sucks anyways), and who knows what we'll look like at that point record-wise, a lot may just watch it from home.

I'm planning on being there, and espn coverage is a good thing, just stating the facts based on prior attendance trends. Im hoping they get the tailgate lots open early.

Move all the fans to the east side!!! :twitcy:

I hope they don't change the "lot open" hours from normal... 14 hours of Tailgating prior to the game. It's going to be a great day/night!!!

There's not much of a point in worrying about playing guessing games with attendance anymore...people will show up or they won't (more than likely, plenty won't). But, I'm not sure it'd be much different if it were on Saturday instead.

Not exactly.
There is no option of playing it early October- your weather and record comments are skewing your facts. They apply to a Saturday or Friday kickoff.

Big difference between an 8pm game and a saturday afternoon game though, weather-wise, which is what i was referring to. A little sun can make a big difference.

Either way attendance is likely to suck though. November games have never been well attended.

This is great for me because I have that Friday night off but not that Saturday night. I get to watch the game and I don't have to burn any vacation time!

I know this is going to help get my Hawkeye wife to go to another ISU game with me this year. I'm betting I'll even get her in ISU gear for the game too. Relentlessly working on getting her to the good side. Games like this help.

If the prior weekday games are any indication they wont open any lots, even donor lots, until noon. I hope they change that and let them open in the morning.

True, but there's no guarantee that we wouldn't have been forced to play the Saturday game at 6pm anyway if it was picked up by FSN.

Correct. So may as well get some cash out of it! :) The last November game with great attendance was the '05 CU game. (which happened to be a night game with great weather, minus the tornado, of course)

Gimme that big play Curvey! Speaking of, I wonder what he thinks about the new and largely improved video board? I bet he'd have no problem watching himself go north for a score. :)

I understand the tailgating point, but most people who get off at 5 should be able to make it to Ames by 8pm from almost anywhere in the state. It's never going to be perfect; some people work on Saturdays too.

From the press release, this will be the ONLY time ISU has EVER had 2 games on ESPN in a single season. That alone should tell you how important it is that we jump at every opportunity for national exposure.

I competely agree, to me it's a no-brainer that we take the friday game & the ESPN that comes with it. Awesome for our program. I'm sure some people won't be overly excited about rushing to Jack Trice after work friday, but they'll get over it

That game was amazing.

A few points

1. ESPN is always good for ISU. I don't care if it's on a Tuesday night, it's good for us both in a financial sense and an exposure sense.

2. Farmers-We always talk about the farmers and how they miss games that are played during harvest. Well, in this case, I think it's a lot easier for a guy to shut it down at 4-5 o'clock and make it to the game than it is for them to not do anything basically a whole Saturday. The way this season is going, there's a good chance we will still be in the fields at that point in time.

3. This will affect some people. If you have to work until five and live 3 hours away, this will be a little more difficult to make than a Saturday game. That's just how it is though.

4. JP could not turn this down. Our TV revenue is dependent on TV appearances. This is just another one to add to our income. Also, if we win, people will see it on a much larger basis.

5. On a Friday night, when at the bar, what's on TV? Football is if it's on and there aren't options. The people who are out on the town will still likely catch this game. Add to that the very few games on Friday nights and people will almost be forced to watch it if they want football. It means little, but it's something.

6. I picking this as the game we shouldn't win but will win.

In the Friday vs Saturday battle, Saturday does not have an 8pm?

Very optimistic to think the few hour difference in weather is why the attendance is low. It is just as factual to say what we would lose from the weather of a later game is made up for by getting more students.

I'm guessing a ton of people will take off work early. Its not like they didn't have some warning time.

I think this is freaking awesome, by the way.

This will be a better draw nationally than a Rutgers/UConn game, IMO. Especially if we do ok and OK State has the season they're expected to have.

Looks like the OK State fans are better at whining than we are...

Given the # of times that ESPN is going to show videos of Paul Rhoads during that game, and the constant rerunning they will put on of our (his) wins at Texas and Nebraska, this is just monumental for us. This is a huge win for the program.

Already put my time off request in and it was approved to take the whole day off. Pretty jacked for this. Also, glad to see the whine crowd has made it out.

Oklahoma State is going to be a pre-season top 10 team. Shut your mouth, put in your time off request, wear a heavier coat and get to the game.
