Rhoads/FB Projects

I like the look of the Jacobson building, but I don't think it's imposing enough. I just wish it were larger/wider. Not so wide it eliminated the hillsides.

I like the Jake too. I don't get the hate for the exterior of it (I buy that the interior facilities may not be up to par). I like the idea of incorporating it, the northwest endzone, and the new scoreboard into the re-model. It would give the impression of a stadium wrapping almost all the way around the field and give that north endzone a really unique look.

I like it as a standalone building, however it really doesnt fit with the rest of the stadium.

I prefer the idea of having the lockerooms/offices, etc under the South endzone. Hope they do it that way instead of a seperate bldg attached to the IPF.

Either way, just glad to see this moving forward.

Here is WVU's stadium, which is the same design with a bowled in (no upper tier) endzone... looks pretty dang good to me.

I think I've read (probably on this board) that Milan-Puskar was designed by the same firm that did Jack Trice. They're basically identical, except I think WVU's grandstands are bigger. I think capacity is ~ 60,000 and the single level bowl in would give JTS ~ 50,000.

Been there...damn near exact same structurally, but they get it ROCKING in Morgantown. The ribbon board around the stadium really makes it electric in there. If there's a school that can match/out tailgate Iowa State, it's WVU. Their football games = our VEISHEA weekend.

If we had ended up in the Big East, I think that those ISU/WVU games would have been unbelievable from a partying standpoint.

For Christ's sake they have a message board called www.wemustignitethiscouch.com or something like that.

Bottom line, we can't sell tix for seats that aren't there.

I can't believe we got through another 8 pages without someone pointing out to you that ISU has been selling tickets for seats that aren't there for decades. They are called hillside tickets.

However, I get your point. We need the capacity so we are leaving as little money as possible on the table for those sell out or close to sell out games.

The usual disclaimer: any single level bowling in of the South end zone would do very little for overall capacity.

Coworker of mine broke it out on the whiteboard today

IF they put a tunnel in the NW hill and just left 1 hill on the NE.
Bowled in the south lower level.
Total physical seats go from approx 45K to 50K
Total Capacity goes from approx 53K to 52K (although the list JT at 55K which is wrong)

So we are subtracting from the total capacity..

Yet adding to the total awesomeness.

I wonder about this too. I know back in the Gene Smith days, the plan was for stuff to go in the south endzone, freeing up space in the Jake/Olsen bldg for renvoations.

That "stuff" underneath the proposed south stands was going to be practice space for basketball.

So you are saying if we had Ohio states stadium that we would be amazing? I think if we had their stadium it would look bad because it wouldn't even be half full for every game, what 5* recruit would want to play at a large empty stadium? NONE. Would you rather have a large empty stadium with bad fan support or a smaller sold out stadium with great fan support.

Players want to play for good teams that win more that 8 games not teams that win 5-6 and just make or miss a bowl game.

Just a little history....

As early as 1913, Ohio Field at High Street and Woodruff Avenue was unable to contain the crowds attracted to many Buckeye home football games. This led to faculty discussion of moving the site elsewhere and building a new facility. The growing popularity of football in Ohio led to the design of a horseshoe-shaped stadium, conceptualized and designed by architect Howard Dwight Smith in 1918. A public-subscription Stadium Campaign to fund the project began in October 1920 and raised over $1.1 million in pledges by January 1921, of which $975,001 were actually honored. [5]
The stadium was completed in 1922 by E. H. Latham Company of Columbus, with materials and labor from the Marble Cliff Quarry Co. at a construction cost of $1.34 million and a total cost of $1.49 million. The stadium's original capacity was 66,212. Upon completion, it was the largest poured concrete structure in the world. Many university officials feared that the stadium would never be filled to capacity.[5]

1. Ohio State built a stadium with a larger capacity then JTS in 1922.
2. University officials feared they would never be able to fill the 66k capacity stadium in the future.
3. Since 1922 they have grown the capacity from 66k to over 102k.
4. Their stadium did not regularly sell out until after World War II.

Even if there is a second deck on the south end zone increasing seating capacity it is not a big deal if all seats are not sold. No one is going to be in those seats during junior days where prospects now won't look at bleachers but an actual horseshoe!!!

Same goes for recruiting visits on non game days. The South End Zone and Football Complex will do AWESOME things for recruiting. I'm not saying CPR and staff are going to land a serious amount of 4 stars but now at least CPR and his staff are recruiting on more equal ground.

I get what your are saying, but that doesn't seem to be the long term path to success--that is to pretend to be something we are not. Kids are smarter than that.

Its one thing to pretend youre something youre not. Its an entirely different thing to say 'This is where we want to go. we're making the facilities improvements, and our fans are making the financial investments to get there. Now we just need players like you.'

Its a lot easier to say youre making a commitment to taking the program to the next level when you can point out real physical examples of that commitment.

Bingo.
