Paul Clark on KXNO

If this team goes to a bowl game again this year season tickets will be up by a large amount. Its about consistency.

You don't think anyone in Des Moines on a given weekend is thinking "well, maybe I'll go up to the Iowa State game this weekend"? Hearing this crap isn't going to help get people to the games.

Also, Paul Clark would never say anything like that if it was going to cost him CR Subscriptions.

Nope, I don't. SOmeone that casual wasn't listening to KXNO and anyone who cared more wouldn't base it off what some guy on the radio said.

This.

Wow some people's comprehension is...astounding.

This too.

Haha have I really read "cancelling my subscription" ???

I think a few people need a dose of that podcast. Or maybe they just never liked Paul in the first place. That's probably it.

Fellas, stop with the comprehension routine. Try to understand the contention by the cycloneworld.

Regardless of what was said on kxNO, if Paul wants to be totally objective, he should not be associated with an ISU fanatical site.

Interesting take for someone on a message board this morning. Your presence on CF despite not being a cyclone fan reeks of insecurity and your posts indicate a severe lack of discernment of the issues being discussed.

You would have a point if this was not a thread about KXNO. In the context of sports talk radio, the impact of bias, needless negative speculation, and general malicious is absolutely valid.

Pathetic, simply pathetic.

Who listens to sports talk? Its not a casual fan. Its not the housewives debating on skiing the kids up to Trice. Its us guys engrossed in sports with concrete opinions about things. Jon, Paul, Matt or Miller do not mold anyone opinions. Its sports talk where the books are small and rely on the people.

Anecdotally, I know that to be false. The presence of the advertisement industry suggests it is not an isolated experience.

The original plan for JTS was to build both sides and then a few yrs later to bowl in the south end zone.

At the time in '76 thru 82, we sold a lot more tickets than there were seats...If I remember ISU had 103% stadium usage.

Thats when the ISU administration should have finished the stadium instead of letting it go on like this for decades.

In retrospect it would have been better to build a SINGLE LEVEL HORSESHOE STADIUM, that would seat 55, to 60,000 fans.

btw i was there for the first game against Air Force in 1975 and the wind was blowing a gale outta the north and Air Force kicked a 63 yard field goal going south. hence wind blown stadium

Ok, I'll bite. What did you hear? Do you think Paul was representing Iowa State well?

I heard him discussing the concessions, the athletic department and their approach to game day, and him refuting the claims that the tailgating atmosphere at ISU is not as good as Illinois/Indiana. He represented ISU well when talking about the tailgating and the spirit walk before the game. He was being objective when talking about the concessions. Overall he didn't stick up for ISU, but I also don't know if he was bashing.

So, when the topic if the week, which was originally brought up by the AD come up, "what can ISU do to get more people to the games?" Paul is just supposed to say "what are you talking about, there were 60,000 people there Saturday!". Maybe he should break into the fight song after that too

To make this easy- among other things, you are too myopic on this issue.

I keep hearing about the concessions. Really? People don't go to games because of concessions? I can understand that a lot of people would want beer in concessions, but you will not find that in any non-NFL stadiums. What else do people want? With the recent renovations, there is very little lines and they have a lot of food options to choose from. What could they offer to put more people in the seats?
Agree. I have been in many stadiums and I don't understand the concessions complaints. Lines are always long, food is always expensive, and ISU has good selection. I understand the payment takes a little longer but I also understand a lot of stadiums don't have charities running the conessions. I can stand in line for 1-2 minutes longer if a charity is making some money.

hey guys, let's try to have this discussion without calling eachother things like moronic, pathetic, or myopic. OK? let's keep things respectful.

thanks

That's the one that really hurts.

I'm not a fan of people who ***** college athletics. It was almost the downfall of ISU Athletics this past summer. I was worried when CF moved to an income based model. I knew it was probably necessary, but it still had me worried. Having someone like Chris Williams (a definitie ISU fanatic himself) run the day-to-day operations has helped. Who knows if it will stand the test of time.

To be fair, if NFL stadiums had bleachers and scrunched people in every 8 inches like historic kinnick, you'd see A LOT more people at NFL games.
To be fair iowa ranks 21st. the top 10 in the NCAA blow away the top 10 in the NFL

I have been to Baylor, it was horrible, but perhaps the physical stadium was average.
Mizzou is ok, but not much better than JTS.
CU has the mountains, and Boulder is fun if you are just visiting.
KU has a freaking track. The stadium in general is below JTS.

MU CU are better, KU, Baylor worse. After th JTS reconfiguration project, it will be above all four.
Have you been to KU since their renovations? And did you know they just approved another $34 million renovation that will start after this season. Have you been to CU since the renovations?

The bolded part is moot because the discussion is about current stadiums but using what you said, it is apparent that you think currently we rank below everyone but KU (I wonder if you have been there since the renovations) and BU. That puts us 10th in the conference. That by definition would make it lower tier. Now i wouldn't say it "sucks" and Paul didn't either

There was a thread on Utefans talking about how great our concessions were. We just have some fans that want to complain.

I dont think it keeps people away, but I honestly believe its the main reason people are not back in their seats by the time the 2nd half starts. I bet the average wait is 20 minutes in those lines at halftime....

Which stadium have you been attending? This is Jack Trice Stadium in Ames we're talking about.

I heard him say that Iowa State probably has the best fans in the country when you factor attendance on tradition and success. I heard him say J T S is a great place to watch a game, great sight lines, most seats on the sidelines. But two open ends just isn't a BCS level stadium now (it's not).

Good interview with Hoiberg. Some intelligent questions. Asked about strength and conditioning philosophies and recruiting strategies.

I wanted to hear more of Paul and less of Rick (not that there is anything wrong with Rick). But we rarely get guys on the radio who really know Iowa State and have the freedom to tell it like it is. Ignoring warts is no way to clear them up.
