ok so i don't quite understand, so he has 18 months probation and if he does it without violation, it'll be removed from his record?

Prosecutors will agree to deferred judgment if you have a clean record and plead guilty so that they don't have to go through a long trial process. It is a win-win for prosecuting and defense. Prosecutor doesn't have to go to trial for some petty crime and defense has it removed from their record but has to keep their nose clean through probation and normally does some community service.
No problem, as someone just by the water cooler just told me...hence deferred judgement..."we won't judge you until you prove to us you can keep your nose clean and butt out of trouble for the next 18 months". If not 2 years in the clink.
It will be a non-conviction and expunged from his record if he completes his probation successfully.
You normally have to get some sort of written "permit," if you will, from your probation officer.
Basically he needs to keep himself out of bad situations. He needs to make sure that he isn't involved with anything other than school and football for a little while. I would guess that if he was even in a fight he could get sent to jail for 2 years.
Ok, but I thought the understanding was that he would get this plea deal from the beginning. Or is it required to first enter a not guilty plea in order to get a plea bargain?
You can also be on probation without having a probation officer, especially after getting a deferred judgement. Trust me. I know.
I think the debate game here is KSU. I would play him against KSU because it's a conference game. If the UNI game was before KSU, I'd sit him through that one. We need David on the field for all conference games.
Anytime you get charged with something you always have to enter a plea right away. Then after things get going, the DA will put out a plea deal. This being the reason he originally pleaded guilty but now he accepted the plea deal and had to plead guilty.

With Story County you can leave the state but you have to tell them everytime you do so. Probation is way different then parole
