Anybody have any good home remedies for canker sores? I know there are plenty of "remedies" for these on the internet, but some of them seem a little far fetched or just silly. Anybody have any that are proven to work, and work fast? I have 2, one on my tongue and the other underneath the tongue and they hurt like a mofo.

I get these about a couple times a year when I get stressed... definitely suck. They really, really suck. They are a form of herpes and you can get valtrex to eliminate them, but of course you have to fill an STD medication then.

Warm salt water will relieve the pain for a while but I don't know if it helps get rid of them any faster.

I think I'll try the salt. If that doesn't work, I'll move to the medication. They usually don't seem to last very long, but dang those things are painful when you have them.

They are a form of herpes .

Canker sores are not caused by herpes so valtrex will not help. You might be thinking of cold sores.

Ambesol will at least deaden the pain until they heal.

I actually have orajel, which numbs them, but it doesn't seem to last very long. I do, however, love that numb feeling it gives my mouth. Kind of gives you that tingly numb feeling.

Yep, that is the downside. The gels with small amounts of anesthetic wear off pretty quickly so you have to apply often. Canker sores suck.

Try salt water first, but not the hydrogen peroxide. Your doctor can prescribe Triamcinolone Acetonide dental paste (Triamcin/Orabas 0.1% Dental Paste) if the canker sores are large or don't go away in a couple of days. It tastes bad and feels like cotton, but works.

The best remedies I have found is to either faithfully rinse your mouth with Listerine several times a day until it's gone or I also use baking soda and water several times a day until it's gone. Both have worked very well for me.

May be the same thing, but I get Kenalog/Orabase from the doctor. It knocks them out if you catch them early enough.

Next time you go to the store.............buy some ALUM, it's in the spices section. It used to can pickles. Put some of that on the sore. I PROMISE it will work.............I've won some bets on it.
I have some in my cupboard, the only time it gets used is for canker sores.

Give it a try.........it'll work!

GOOD LUCK-

Sounds like that would burn like a son of a ***** if it's anything like pickles.

This. My doctor told me to do this about 5 years ago, and I haven't had a serious cold since (and believe me, I had bad colds every year). Twice a day. I'd recommend it to anyone.
So, its also a common cold remedy?!?! Killing two birds with one stone, I like it! Especially, since I have a cold right now, haha. Does Hydrogen Peroxide taste bad or is it tasteless? I know, you don't swallow it, but can you taste it in your mouth?
