Without spending a fortune, can someone recommend what kind of gloves are very good for this freezing weather? Thanks.

Best gloves for warmth are actually mittens. If you can keep your fingers touching each other, your body will help provide warmth. Gloves with separate fingers do a less efficient job of keeping your fingers warm.

Go to your nearest Arctic Cat Dealer. I bought a pair of gloves, I think they are neoprene that are absolutely crazy warm. I went snowmobiling saturday and my hands were actually getting hot. I think they were $40 which I don't see as ridiculous for something of the quality they seem to be.

The cheapest thing you can do is wear a pair of latex gloves under whatever you already have. Your hands will likely sweat a bit instead of freezing.

Yep, I would agree fully with that. I actually use something like these (but for women) - they're a convertible glove/mitten with Thinsulate:

Men's Glommet - Khaki : Target

But then you have to be the guy wearing mittens, and I don't think anyone wants that.

True, but there is an argument for function over fashion in this case.

If you go with the mittens, watch out for the bully trying to take your lunch money.

As long as they arent idiot mittens at least they cant pull on one hand and make you slap yourself in the face with the other... (I looked for a youtube of Cosby but came up short, sorry)

If you are convinced into getting mittens I would probably suggest getting something like this so you don't lose them while you're waiting for the bus or outside at recess. Everyone needs mitten clips.

Yarn that goes through both sleeves is SO much cheaper.

If you are that obsessed with appearance over comfort, then you still have some growing up to do. I can understand not wanting to be the kid with mittens in grade school, but beyond that go for the comfort.

Mittens are great. I recommend some with a vent/handwarmer zippered pocket. I have a pair of Burtons like that which are awesome.

Watch online for sales coming up. Also, Active Endeavors by Valley West has great sales starting soon, as should Scheel's.

Why don't people just do what I do... Stay Inside!!!

To help the OP, I've worn just cheap 15 dollar wool gloves and they've been great for just walking outside for a short period or driving a car. For shoveling snow etc. I wouldn't recommend though.
