Unbelievable High School Mascots

I attended Blooming Prairie High School in southern MN, home of the Awesome Blossoms. Was an interesting nickname, yes, but pretty funny to chant "flower power" after beating someone in a sport...

Eat a lot of these?

I suppose its better than the Purple Pounders!

These are great. However, I found the best team names come right from ISU intramurals or city league teams. For example, we played against a co-ed volleyball team called "3 Big Spikes and 3 Nice Sets". I also played on a 5'9" and Under basketball team called "The Virgin Penetraters". We never designed a logo for our team. :wideeyed:

In Illinois, I played against the Fisher Bunnies and the Hoopesten Cornjerkers.

I have to say though, the old Cornjerker image painted at the top of the gymnasium around 1997 was way creepier. It was a Nebraska Cornhusker guy with a strange smile half sticking out of a row of corn while the other, lower, half remained concealed in the corn.

I would like to nominate the Ft. Collins (CO) HS Lambkins. And if that isn't good enough, the other hs is called Rocky Mountain High.

As if the Estherville Midgets in the Great Lakes Conference isn't strange enough, the Conference also has the Sheldon Orabs.

Just the Lakes Conference...and I was about to mention the Orabs.

Yuma, AZ. One of the high schools there is home to "The Criminals" named for the old prison there. (See 3:10 to Yuma the movie).

I live about 30 min away from Centralia, IL and I always found it funny that they were the Oprhans and Annies. They have a rival Mt. Vernon, IL and I always felt bad that they made shirts saying on the front Who's your daddy. Then on the back say "O Yeah thats right you don't have one." Awful! but thats kinda what you get for naming your nickname that!

That is just all sorts of awesome.

Sounds like something I would do...

I like this comment from below the article regarding college mascots:

I’ve always wanted to know what the commentators on an Oregon State vs. South Carolina game would sound like.
“John, the Cocks are literally POUNDING the Beavers tonight…â€￾

We used to have that matchup in the Iowa Conference. Buena Vista Beavers vs. Upper Iowa Peacocks.

Polo Marcos ... Polo, IL

Coe recruited a basketball player from somewhere around there two years ago. I went with the coaches to watch. They Would chant Marcos - Polos but it just didn't have the right ring to it.

No mention of the Boone Toreadors yet? When the Toreadors and the Orabs meet up at tourney-time, throw out the records

I don't believe Boone has ever played the Orabs, not that I can ever remember anyway.

Did you know that the Nebraska football team was called the Bugeaters back in the day? True! And, if you happen to be an entomologist, you can't help yourself and simply MUST pay waaay too much for a T-shirt emblazoned with the mascot name.
