It will cost way more than the $175K to rebuild it. It will be interesting if their Commercial policy had Guaranteed Replacement coverage on it... or Extended Replacement. From the online pics, that building was not in good shape. I'm surprised the insurance carrier didn't audit the risk more closely. A good insurance carrier would have required fixing things or risk being non-renewed. Welp, the carrier is on the hook now.I believe the fire chief came up with that. $175k structure and $100k for everything inside.
I would be shocked if it could be rebuilt for that.
That's been the talk on FB since yesterday, with admonition from the fire dept to cool their jets for the time being.Yeah it's not coming back unless the community raises funds and rallies.
Sheeeet, more than 30 years... they were talking about wanting an Olive Garden when I first came to Ames in 96.ONLY took 20 years lol
Yeah but Facebook didn’t decouple from University email addresses until 2006. That was the birth of Boomers on Facebook which powers a majority of those People of (insert city here) Facebook groups.Sheeeet, more than 30 years... they were talking about wanting an Olive Garden when I first came to Ames in 96.
Anymore it has become very average and super slow. Still sad to see what happened. Nevada has nothing else for ice cream and a burger/tenderloin other than McDonald’s which.. yuck.Jumbo beefburger
cheese balls
chocolate malt
haven’t been there in years.
That McDonalds is awful too. Quality is terrible and it doesn't matter if there's one car in front of you or ten, you're waiting at least 30 minutes.Anymore it has become very average and super slow. Yep, it’s been that way for years too. That McDonalds is awful too. Quality is terrible and it doesn't matter if there's one car in front of you or ten, you're waiting at least 30 minutes.
and had gotten even more expensive.Anymore it has become very average and super slow. Still sad to see what happened. Nevada has nothing else for ice cream and a burger/tenderloin other than McDonald’s which.. yuck.
What ever happened to the old DQ in Nevada?Honestly I think if your Starbucks and you want to build back and keep going, you build a much smaller building with kitchen and have it outdoor seating and order outside. It seems like a lot of small communities have these types of ice cream shops and are very successful and much cheaper to build back. I think they have a big enough lot for it as well.
My guess though is they take the insurance money and run and the school absorbs the lot.
Closed down in 2013 I believe. Owner just wasn’t making money. He closed it and went to work for Fareway at meat counter. Local contractor bought it in last 5 years and cleaned lot up and works out of it.What ever happened to the old DQ in Nevada?
I believe the City funded the lot cleanup. Haul out of contaminated soil from its days long ago as a service station. The building itself looks like absolute ****.Closed down in 2013 I believe. It’s a stark contrast to the Boone McDs which is pretty goodThat McDonalds is awful too. Quality is terrible and it doesn't matter if there's one car in front of you or ten, you're waiting at least 30 minutes.
Actually the guy who bought the DQ building applied for grants that helped fund the removal.I believe the City funded the lot cleanup. Haul out of contaminated soil from its days long ago as a service station. The building itself looks like absolute ****.
With respect to Starbucks, was told today it was not insured by someone who would know. I think the fact that their posts say "we are waiting to meet with the City" more or less confirms it. The tear down is going to be the city's problem and then I'm guessing the school ends up with the land.
We used to stop there for ice cream and cheese curds after little league games when I was a kid. Super sad.Starbucks in Nevada caught fire today. It might be done
We stopped there last summer after a ball game to get a tenderloin, serving was very slow, I bet we waited at least 30 minutes to get our order. Food was fine, but not worth the wait. Sorry to see a small town business go out.Anymore it has become very average and super slow. Still sad to see what happened. That’s a lot of money to come up with. I’m skeptical that citizens alone are going to come up with enough. I hope I’m wrong.![]()
