JJeff Injury Updates

Did they say the MRI was happening this morning; or did they not give that much info. I'm anxiously awaiting that they still say it's just a sprain.

I have zero medical expertise. I have had Bud Kilmer flashing through my mind since Friday afternoon though. Not sure heeding his suggestion is best for Joshua.

My guess is he has ligament damage. You can play on it after a week or so depending on the severity, but it's not going to feel good. With proper care, pain killers, and adrenaline, you might be OK, but you're movement is going to be limited, especially when it comes to playing a side to side, explosive sport like basketball. Reinjury is a major risk. My gut says he's out unless we make the Final Four.

Sprains are always going to be tricky, because the only way to really get it to heal properly is to stay off it for 4 to 6 weeks, without basketball. Keep it in the boot for 2 or 3 weeks, and then trying it without and looking at the swelling that occurs.
These guys are in top shape, there is no reason if no structural damage is present that he should not be ready to play on Friday. Brace and tape will go a long way, but it all comes down to pain threshold and how much he can handle. Mobility from side to side is going to be limited, no doubt. You really cannot worry about reinsuring it, because that just sets him up for not playing the rest of the year.

If it's minor damage, a good brace/tape job could allow him to see the floor. Probably wouldn't be as effective as it is weird playing with your ankle not doing it's normal flexing, but Joshua's game isn't as reliant on explosive movement as other players. His defense would probably be the thing that is most impacted for him.

I've had a bad ankle injury back in my glory days, and thought there was no way I was going to be able to play the day of. Put on heavy tape, and as soon as I started warming up, there was no pain. Adrenaline can work wonders.

Is JJ playing at 50-60% make us better or not?

In addition to that, he has a NBA career to worry about too.

Yep, I've played a lot on a bad ankle. It does get better when you warm up, but usually hurt worse when you're done playing.
