***2026 NCAA MBB coaching carousel***

MC was never going to be a Cyclone lifer (even if he said he was). Now, I hope with all my heart that TJ is a cyclone lifer and wants to be one and I feel like he does. I believe he'll continue to take less $$ so the players can have more.

Disclaimer: I had the same hope that Fred would be a cyclone lifer and we all know how that ended :)

Campbell coached at ISU for ten years, probably twice as long as the pundits would estimated. Turned down numerous jobs to remain and he had little ties to ISU.

Cael and Fred were certainly disappointing being "Loyal Sons", but there was little JP could do.

We probably ought to just gird ourselves that no one can be expected to stay forever just because they have history with ISU, TJ included. And if they do stay forever, you probably end up with a Fennellly situation and have to watch the program stagnate.

I do too

Who is responsible for hiring and retaining coaches at ISU if not Pollard..

He gets a ton of deserved credit for hiring Campbell & Otz. Also he gets criticism for hiring Chizik & Prohm. I'm more optimistic than most on Rogers, but CJFR's legacy is obviously TBD.

I am very much of the belief it is the AD's job to secure the donors & funds to retain coaches. If ISU is unsuccessful in doing that, who else is at fault if not JP?
Can you do 360 degree dunks? If not, who is at fault?

Thamel just told gameday crew he doesnt expect any Blue Blood jobs to open.

Can't get blood out of a turnip.

Jamie doesn't print money
I agree with everything else, but this is such a nails on chalkboard quote to me. "Can't get blood out of a turnip." I heard that non-stop in my other lives from people with plenty and I mean PLENTY of money and income. They just saw no value in paying for theirs debts they owed or even potential investments.

It is the AD'S job to show them the value in donating.

Jamie really can't get enough funds from Sukup, Albaugh, and on down the line?

Last I checked Albaugh is worth more than Booth (KU's buggest athletic donor) and ISU's athletic budget is on par with KU, if not a little bit higher. So KU AD can convince a guy worth less money to donate and keep Bill Self, but AD JP cannot get a guy worth more to keep TJ? Because the blood isn't in the turnip. I do not buy that. Then we need someone else who CAN secure funds. We have a few billionaires and plenty of multi-millionaires just like KU believe it or not.

This idea that ISU is all poverty and the narrative that there aren't potential ISU donors with money is fake news. Our AD can find money for CyTown, but not for successful coaches salaries to keep them around...wild. maybe he just isn't the fundraising type...well, we need one because I know of some ISU alumni and fans who are living incredibly comfortable compared to me (talking 500-1000x what I'm worth). If I can see the benefit of donating thousands of my dollars, we need an AD that can convince someone much richer to take care of these financial issues before the arise.

But there must be something I'm missing at KU and Self where their AD can do what ours can't in regards to donors.

You realize Albaugh never attended ISU?

I'm not so sure about that. What these schools care about--besides not going too far into debt--is building their brand. You can build a basketball brand (KU, UConn) that has real value, and at the same time be a big nothingburger in football. Granted, if your brand is football-dominant, the $$ is by definition bigger. But so's the competition for that bag. Smaller schools like ISU can compete with bball while they'll never be able to compete with the biggest boys in football. It'll never happen.
Basketball makes nothing compared to football. Your brand is your football unless you are Duke or Kentucky.

Heard Hoiberg’s name thrown out there in a podcast I was watching last night.

They hadn’t heard his name being mentioned at all, they were just throwing out some possible names they could go after. I thought it was stupid…. why would Fred leave Nebby for KSU?

I will say…. it would tick me off. It was one thing for Fred to leave for the NBA, and then go to Nebby, but if he goes into the Big 12 to compete against us…. ummmm…. no! Please don’t ever do that to us Fred!
Nebraska is a way better job. More money, better facilities, etc...

What is Devries' contract? I just don't see him doing well at Indiana. At all.
I never understood the appeal of that guy. Completely rode Tucker's ability through two job promotions and landed at a blue blood. Indiana is a hot mess.
