New floor for Big 12 MBB/WBB

When he said it has better grip, I wondered how that might affect play. I also wondered about how it handles variation of humidity, particularly if there is an ice rink under it.

And does this mean that the home team gets to have their logo on the court?

Other conferences will follow suit no doubt. And if you don't think this is 100% about more $$$ through advertising you're kidding yourself. Why limit on-court sponsorships to one company when you can sell it to 20?
Definitely. All fun and games until the "cool floor" is only used for one 60-second intro in pre-games, then never used again for anything except ads after that.

I vote to have a circle randomly appear somewhere on the court for 10 seconds. If a player scores from the circle, it's worth 10 points.

Or have the coaches' box glow red when the coach is out of it. Or build an on-floor shot chart throughout the game.

I'm joking about this, but it does open things up for innovation. But yes, it will probably just be to show more ads.

Yeah better grip isn't necessarily a good thing, can cause more injuries if it's too 'sticky'

Rule change needed just for tourney. Now we can up the entertainment value and implement the NBA Jam TE moving shot locations worth 3, 4, 5 and 6 point shots.

High school in Scottsbluff, NE has something similar. Pretty cool what they can do with these visual courts.

I'm pretty sure this is a system of video projections on a more traditional wood court rather than a court that is a video screen itself. You can see the players on the court casting shadows that block the video.

Still cool, though.

They can actually do the shot chart. I think it more for practice and such. Has a ton of capabilities, not just preprogrammed stuff.

For sure it will be used to increase ad revenue but the amount of other entertainment is almost limitless. I've been thinking of game day experience but imagine the value of using it as a teaching tool. Animation showing where and when a player should be while running a certain set...

The various themed nights will be interesting as well.

Watch the video in post #33. They demonstrate that very thing.

Real time shot charting, diagramming plays, on court graphics for drills. Huge capabilities.

Also every team out there with one of these will have the ability to have themed courts like NBA teams do right now, and there really is no limit. Honoring the 2000 Elite 8 team? Use the center logo they had on their court at the time. Add a special 2000 Elite 8 badge to the court for the game.

I am sure that they'd want to have similar slip resistant to any tradition hardwood athletic system. Perhaps better grip when wet.

The company website has highlights of it in use during actual games. In one of the Euro competitions, there were animations for 3-pointers and dunks. The whole area between the arcs lit up before going back to the "primary" look.

In addition to the obvious pre-game use (starting lineups, etc.):

Their announcement specifically states "we’re helping teams and conferences unlock new revenue generation". They have to throw in a bunch of attractive benefits to gain fan support, but the bottom line is to display advertisements to generate revenue.

I'm sure that their sales pitch to schools and conferences is that "it's expensive but the revenue from advertisements will pay for the floor in x number of years and after that it's all gravy".
