*** Official #2 IOWA STATE vs Kansas Game(Day) Thread ***

You’re losing at least one of your next four road games. no chance you’re beating BYU or Arizona. You’ll probably lose one of Houston and Tech at home. So best case you’re at five losses, which, who knows, may not even be good enough for a double bye in the conference tournament. Maybe you get a 2 seed in the NCAA, which is good, but would be disappointing after 16-0. Oh, and the real nut punch would be Hoiberg may get a 1 seed. The only positive thing I’ll say—like others—is the turnover thing just looks like a total lack of focus to me, and fatigue. Kansas simply did not play anything close to the level of defense that should be necessary to force 10 turnovers in a half. I don’t care if Lipsey is hurt, he and Jefferson were dribbling like they were in shootaround

I don't mind the loss, hell I was not feeling a win tonight even before it started but I didn't see it playing out quite like it did. A 6-12 point loss i would be handling better. I'd be curious to learn the last time a team that ended up a 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament took a 20+ loss to an unranked team during their season.
I think you would be better to compare net and things like KenPom than writers rankings

I think we can put the "National Title Contender" thing to rest after this game. Iowa State has looked mediocre on offense the last 8 games. Defense is also getting carved up. Iowa State is turning the ball over more and more as teams figure out how to play against Iowa State's offense. Jefferson is now forcing things. Toure is now forcing things. Heise hasn't been able to hit a shot consistently. I still think Iowa State finishes in the top 4 teams of the league...just not the champ. This team has always felt like a 5 seed that can play like a 2 seed, but only for 1 half. Final 4 is a pipe dream in my opinion. Let's just get to the 2nd weekend without going full Iowa State (where we embarrass our ourselves on national tv for all to see). The brighter the lights get, the more likely Iowa State is to go full nuclear choke (across all sports ironically). It's the Iowa State way.

If you're trying to be best buds with @Darius Bieber, you've succeeded. Other than that, think before you type. TJ and the team have earned that. Be better.

Or they beat Tech and Houston at home.

Last year they lost at KU by 17 and lost what amounted to a 3 quarter court shot at UA.

You end up with 3 or 4 loses
So many ways to look at things I guess.

After 1 loss not going to throw in the towel just yet.

If they finish top 4 in the Big 12 they are going to be a top 4 seed

I guess, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Houston plays with the same intensity as Iowa State yet somehow doesn’t have to get taken out back and shot every season in order to get its act together, they just weather the storm. Kansas was the same in its heyday. Fr****** Nebraska is playing with more composure and energy than Iowa State. Could ISU get absurdly hot and rattle off wins? I guess, but nothing on offense right now inspires confidence.

If Houston were in Iowa State’s shoes would anyone doubt that they’d flex their muscles Saturday at Cincinnati? Yet there’s a decent chance Iowa State lays another egg. “Well, it’s a game championship teams win, so we’ll see.” Except…that’s exactly what we said coming into tonight. 16-1 is great, but the goal is to win the conference, and when your schedule is backloaded you just can’t get dead legs for three or four games in mid January—I mean, you can, but you have to find ways to win

Well, dang. I wondered about that. What about #2 and #3 seeds?

The worry I have isn't that we can't start playing well again, nor is it that that we still can't beat anyone on any given night. Like others have said, were 16-1.

My fear was that this type of game was even possible. Most great teams that go on F4 runs just don't have this type of game even with their reasonable range of outcomes. Especially when healthy.

I see a lot of "everyone has games like this!". Well, no, not everyone. Not like this.
I mean Gonzaga got beat by 40 against Michigan and I don't think Gonzaga is a bad team. Sometimes teams have games where they just play poorly.

The way we felt tonight is how Purdue fans felt when he crushed them in their own place. That day we couldn't miss and they weren't hitting some of their open looks....same exact story tonight.

Dude, relax. It's basketball. We had a bad game against a very good team at the Phog. Otherwise we are 16-1. Let's see how things go the next couple of weeks.

We will lose 3 or 4 more games as well. Brace yourself. Don't jump off a cliff each time. OK?

We have to fix our slow starts to these games. It sucks to lose to a mediocre Kansas team but I think most of us knew this game was setting up poorly for us. All I care about is that we are ready for the NCAA tournament when the tournament starts. That means we are at full health. That means we are playing our best basketball. We have a team that can do special things if those things happen. I have no doubt the road is going to have some bumps, but we need to stay focused on the prize.

I’m not sure what I said that was out of line or off base.

We started slow against Iowa. Trailed by 13 with 3 minutes left in the first half.

We started slow against West Virginia. Played to their level for 12 minutes before we woke up.

We started slow against Baylor. Didn’t lead until the last shot of the first half.

We started slow against Okie State. Down 9 halfway through the first half.

We started slow tonight. Had more turnovers than made baskets in the first half and gave up easy looks on the other end.

We’ve done well to dig ourselves out of those situations, but just dug too deep a hole at the wrong place tonight.
Perhaps I read your post wrong, but I took it as losses happening again and again.
