So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

Agree. this is actually harder to get wrong than it is to get right.

Let coach have his meeting and say what he needs to say for as long as he feels like. Tell the team when CMC is done speaking that you’ll take any questions.

Politely show Matt out the door and tell the team you’ve already been in touch with replacements and expect to make a decision soon. Let them sleep on it. Nothing was gained in those 12-24 hours.

Shouldn't even allowed Campbell to address the team, Took a new job, be gone and we will mail you your stuff from you office

Nothing was lost either.

Fred fell in his lap, and Fred came to him In fact he turned down Fred and hired McDermott first then later hired Fred.
McDermott was successful and sought-after at UNI immediately before ISU. McDermott is successful and sought-after at Creighton immediately after ISU.

Chizik was successful and sought-after at Texas immediately before ISU. It was viewed as quite a coup when we hired him. He won a championship at Auburn immediately after ISU.

Cael was sought-after when we hired him. He has been the standard in his sport immediately after ISU.

Campbell, Otz, Hoiberg, Dresser, and the non-revenue coaching hires have all been really good. People like to bag on Pollard as being bad at hiring coaches when the ones that haven't worked out were pretty widely celebrated as good hires at the time.

“They were sought after and were celebrated as good hires at the time” is a pretty low bar.

Not a troll. Pollard has done good things, no doubt. He has also been passed by with his feet in cement by the modern world of college athletics. It is OK to discuss what this has done to our major programs. It is also OK to wonder why we're using NIL funds for non-revenue generating sports at the expense of football and basketball; why no one can question his supreme control; why the fans better believe everything he says; why outgoing coaches throw him a bone and most assume that means they loved working with him (just like some politicians); and why his most recent coaching search was done to "preserve continuity" and obviously did nothing of the sort; and why our student-athletes don't trust a word he says. It is OK to question all of these things while recognizing he has done good for ISU.
It seems like most people feel that so long as the good outweighs the negatives, then he should be kept around and is the right man for the job.

Now in reality a power 4 AD today is CEO of a large entertainment company. In the corporate world a CEO rarely gets a chance to make a second blunder in the current environment. It’s one strike and you’re out these days. I guess it’s just Iowa nice thing. We are very forgiving . After all Kirk did great things early in his career at EIU but has been underperforming for a decade at least. However Iowa fans still circle the wagons around his worthless a$$

It also doesn't take a genius to know that the hurt the players felt and what JP did was in direct response to the actions of Matt Campbell. The players trusted Matt and JP has a job to do. And that job isn't to wait for everyone to get over the fact that Matt had moved on. You and the players can be subjective and get all emotional..........JP doesn't have that luxury. So it's up to you, but you might want to give the guy a break.

Sometimes you hire a person who's a great coach and it just doesn't work. That doesn't mean it was a bad hire. Not all bad results are due to bad decisions, just like not all good results are due to good decisions.

Again, 2 for 4 on MBB coaches and 1 for 3 on FB coaches with one yet to be seen. We do not lack the funds to make good hires.
Chiz was actually a great hire even if he was an ass. Im sure he would have been bowling the next year if he had stayed. Upgraded the talent which led to CPRs early success. CPR wasn't a bad hire either but he lost momentum.

One of the reasons trotted out for the quick hire was player retention and that flopped. Now everyone has switched to “we didn’t want those guys anyway!”
It's not retention it's recruiting, needed a new coach to actively recruit the portal.

Quite possibly but Steve Leath was a total idiot.
Adding to that, Eaton hated collegiate athletics at ISU and probably sent us down the wrong path for a period of time. Fortunately, he moved on. He often sided with the pro -Iowa, Marvin Pomerantz at the Iowa BOR, on many issues that were less than favorable towards ISU. Eaton was myopic. We fortunately recovered. Prior to Eaton, Hilton and Parks were two back to back, incredible leaders for ISU. They provided 25 plus consecutive years of incredible vision. It all starts at the top.

Completely disagree. The team gave up on him in Year 2 and it was obvious he was in over his head. Mac would have taken his first team to a bowl.

JP is obviously a smart guy but he can be an autocrat. Didn’t love the Rodgers hire TBH. He might be a good coach but JP making a unilateral decision about the most important job in the athletics department literally hours after Campbell leaves is not good leadership. Even if Rodgers is the guy I don’t see why you move that quickly. No serious business or corporation would hire without doing a formal job search. It was rash and if it doesn’t work out it’s 100% on JP.
Jamie is a planner. That is what he does. And how many times has Matt's name come up in coaching searches in the last ten years? Not only does he have a list of coaches to replace his for pretty much every sport he has likely talked to every one of his top prospects - maybe not tipping his hand to all of them, but enough that he is comfortable that the preliminary interview is complete. And when **** got real this time around he had plenty of time to talk to Wendy if he hadn't already as well as any other people he needed to consult.

Moving quickly was a plus, not a minus.

Agree from the Campbell side, but players deserved to have this meeting. Not all of them left remember, and even if they did, doesn’t take away their efforts as a Cyclone. Sometimes it’s ok to take the high road and I think players at least needed the face to face.

Both can be correct, appears to have been a bit of a **** measuring contest between JP and Matt. Players caught in middle. Wait a day as the adult in the room and let the players have some time to consume this. Just my opinion though.

My personal opinion is it was the greatest coaching search timeline announcement ever. Any school. We had an official announcement on our website while ESPN was running with "Sources say Matt Campbell" has finalized a deal with Penn State". It was the ultimate "next man in" and said "we're F'ing Iowa State". I don't harbor any animosity toward Campbell at all. But just being an observer of the situation it was epic.

So when will the statue be built for Campbell? My suggestion is to build the statue for Coach Heacock instead.
