PSU Campbell Presser

I don’t know about the whole Campbell being an evil genius angle, but he’s not wrong and you don’t even need to leave this thread to see it.
They better remember who's paying their "salary", same for arrogant coaches like Campbell who get to make a living the rest of us can only dream about just because we like a sport.

That's why I get upset when coaches blow off the media or act like they are too good to answer questions. They aren't **** without us.

If Jeremiah thinks ISU fans aren't faithful.... I can't wait to see where he ends up. At any big time school.... the fans will literally send you death threats to you and your family if you don't perform... especially for the money they get now. I'm not saying that's right, it's NOT, but Jeremiah better be careful what he wishes for by going somewhere else.

Most players that transfer INTO ISU comment about how amazing they are treated here. Good luck Jeremiah!

Holy sour grapes, don’t pay their salary then. These guys didn’t do anything wrong, their coach left and they’re going to either follow him or maybe play somewhere else, and then we’ll get new guys. People get really upset for players that the day before they would have been singing the praises of.

We’re likely going to be getting a bunch of guys that are currently doing exactly the same thing to WSU.

Is it wrong for fans to think these players care about the school they attend, or the fans that pay their salaries?

I get it... we shouldn't give a s**t about them, because honestly they don't give a s**t about us, but some fans do honestly believe that these players care about more than just the head coach. Shame on them I guess for falling for it.

I get that... but as far as Jeremiah's comment... I don't think the WSU players will get treated much differently by the fans at ISU than they did at WSU... they will get treated pretty well for the most part.

But if you think Jeremiah will get treated the same way at a PSU, or Alabama, or Ohio State when he gets beat for a TD as he did at ISU for doing the same thing... you're kidding yourself.

Even Iowa fans are 10x worse to their players than ISU fans are. There's plenty of video evidence to support that.

I think it’s more like support and cheer for the guys that are here while they’re here, or don’t obviously. It’s not realistic to expect every player to live up to the level of a lifetime of fandom that fans might have.

These kids have no f'ing clue, do they? No idea whatsoever where the money comes from that pay them.

You see more and more attitudes like this.... and there will be more and more fans checking out. We'll see how that goes for the future of college sports.
With annual and perpetual free agency, fans will become reluctant to become too attached to any individual players.

This will eventually spread to team following as well, as interest is cumulative.

Attachment drives viewing, attendance, and financial support.

At some point, every consumer questions price versus satisfaction.

Ah well, up your giving folks!

Agree... so why support anything Jeremiah has to say? He's nothing to me anymore.

College athletes are going to quickly destroy college athletics as the average fan realizes they care far more for their school than those getting paid and free tuition to play a child's game there.

And don't forget coaches too. Don't become too attached to Rogers either... WSU fans sure shouldn't have.

So like you say... why become "attached" at all anymore.... especially when it's costing you drastically more. Why up your investment to keep someone like Jeremiah, who isn't even grateful for it anyway? Or to keep Matt Campbell, when he's been looking to leave for a while now.

This is all why I've always been hoping for everything to collapse for quite a while now... so they are forced to tear it all down and start over. Not going to happen anytime soon though probably.... since so many people are still willing to fork over more and more for this BS every year.

This is very true. I've done a lot of study of grief as a subject and experienced this for myself. The so-called "stages of grief" are actually based on research of a rather linear process that terminally ill patients go through, not the grief of their loved ones after they die. Indeed, much of the actual grief experience is a tangled mess of all "stages" in most days (or hours). It certainly has been in the last few weeks.

Actual serious life things certainly have the understandable peaks and valleys.

People losing their god damn minds over a coaching change in, as it was called, a 'kids' game', isn't one of those serous life things.

Interestingly, the three posters that you quoted in your "Stages of Grief" reply are all on my Ignore list, so I couldn't actually see what you were responding to.

Well you can imagine them being on the chart with squiggly lines.

I still enjoy Iowa State athletics and watch the Big 12, but to put the entire thing in perspective, college sports have really got out of hand.

The real value is in the schools and not in the players. You could send every player and coach in D1 to a semi-professional league, and fill the college ranks with amateurs (back to how it was), and I would bet everyone would continue to watch college. The reason it has escalated so far is because people are competitive.

The old way is more fun because you know your team is loyal and has school spirit. Now you aren't sure what players are loyal.
