NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

without a doubt, Mahomes will have a major say in who is Reids replacement, Maybe they have a plan in place, maybe not, but I would be shocked if Reid is on the sidelines for more than 2 or 3 seasons after this.
They don't have a plan in place for post Andy Reid. He will be there until 2030. Football is what that guy does.

As I said you can only convert so much pay over to signing bonuses. Also, by the time he becomes a free agent his asking price to stay will be adjusted to what the salary cap and market values him as. That's how it works dude. Even if hes not playing at the level he has been the last several seasons the market will essentially command him to make 40% more. Stop acting like the guy is ever going to be cheap for the Chiefs. He's obviously worth it now and maybe he always will be based on the market but don't always assume it's a good investment for the team.
You pay a very good QB about 15% of the total payroll, that number does not change, as long as you are not up to 20% and they are playing at a high level they are a steal, because there are only about 10 guys that can play at the level week in and week out.

You're assuming he agrees to that. I don't know he will.

Why wouldn't he, Mahomes has always been willing to take a little less to continue to win, his net worth is currently around $90 million and he is already getting $30 million in endorsements, There is zero reason to think by the time he is finish playing he will not be worth $200 or $300 million for a net worth. The value of his stake in the Royals and soccer team will make that very reasonable.

Because if the team sucks he probably has no desire to be in KC.

Why would the team suck? You seem to think KC needs a complete rebuild, they do not, they need a retool. the offensive line is young, they will improve and get better with experience. They have two very good young WRs on the roster, and one of the best QBs ever to play the position. They need a running back and a replacement for Kelsey or a 3rd WRs.
This team to me was just worn down by all the extra football they have played, injuries and dropped passes. Not once this entire season has the starting lineup they thought they were going to have on offense played a game, not once. The WRs were suspended and then hurt, the offensive line was beat up most of the year and we were starting a new LT and LG, when they played they did very well and graded out above average. We lost Lott on the defensive line, early in the season, and other have not stepped up like they hoped. But to say there is not a lot of talent on this roster is completely wrong.

I don't know how they'll be in 2030. I don't think the current roster needs a compere rebuild. I think the current roster needs a few improvements. I think there are 2 huge things that 90% of people don't see or think about the current team. 1. The playcalling. Defenses the have figured us out. 2. This team in the last 4-5 years has played almost an entire regular season more than most teams. They look tired and drained. You surely can see #2. If you understand football and watch KC every week it's plain as day. Its not an excuse, its fact. Given that management needs to make decisions accordingly.

You're talking next season here. While the Chiefs need to retool this off-season, they will likely need to be looking at another come 2030. No question Mahomes is part of the next one, just not sure he will be a part of the one after.

Also, lets not forget Mahomes grew up a Cowboys fan, and if there is one franchise that will over pay for a 35 year old veteran who has been in the league for 13 years...

That is what I am saying, this Mahomes injury might be a blessing down the road. We are going to end jp with the 10th - 12th pick in the draft, and a 3rd place schedule for next season. Kelsey will retire, freeing up money for next season, you cut Taylor and free up more. Decide before the draft are you going to sign McDuffy to a decent contract or if he not willing you move him for another 1st round pick. No team should be worried or even thinking about its roster in 2031, so why bring it up?

The only reason it got brought up was because I questioned if Mahomes would be the Chiefs QB when they move to the Kansas side. You are the one who dumbed posts and started making a counter argument.

Unless you're drafting 1-5 wtf is the difference? There isn't much difference in being pick 10 or 15 honestly.

Because it is dumb to think Mahomes will not be QBing the team in 6 years. Just bringing it up is crazy when talking about a 30 year old QB. Could they move on from Mahomes before then, sure anything COULD happen, hell I could win the lottery tonight, but that is not happening either. Mahomes will be starting the first game when they move to Kansas, it's really that simple, baring injury.

He's 30 right now. 6 years is an eternity in football terms. Yeah I expect him to be a Chief when they move into the new stadium. He may not be a good investment after his contract is up though.

Ok. We will see. I really don't think it's anywhere near dumb when his contact is up on 2030.

It is when you think they are going to allow him to walk away after this current contract. They will extend the contract next season, when they get more cap space. No one thinks or believes that Mahomes will not come back from this injury and will not be playing at a high level for another decade or so.
