Assistant Coaches

I saw something that Kiffin's new buyout is $1.5M. If Campbell was going to jump jobs, a buyout wasn't going to prevent it.

And like others have pointed out, if Jamie demands a $4M buyout, then maybe Campbell asks for a salary commensurate for a top coach in Big12 vs. the $5M salary he had. Lance Leipold is making $6.65M and has been at KU a much shorter time than Campbell was at ISU.

There's give & take in every negotiation.
Not sure why CMC cares about the buyout. If he really only had 3 jobs he’d take, a $10 million buyout wouldn’t stop them. Their AD had $2 million in his desk drawer.

I keep getting a little more pumped up each day about our Cyclone future. Bring in as many SDSU and NDSU coaches and connections as Coach Rogers can. These dudes know a thing or two about winning.

I like the Mt. Union connections for the same reason

Would a $2 mil buyout stop an NFL team? I wouldn't think so.
I mean it appears a $50M buyout wouldnt stop anyone if they really wanted anyone. You know what it would do, Give ISU a huge leg up on finances when someone comes calling.

The $2m buyout was pretty stupid, when that contract was negotiated it was pretty much after the coaching searches were done. If that is what we had to do to keep him then he was already gone. It not like if he had a $20M buyout PSU wouldnt have paid it, but that $20M would have went a long way to help our finances.

To me that just means JP made a terrible deal. Its not like we had to give him anything at that point he had a contract through several more years. Basically we just gave him a gift and an easy out, because apparently we are so pathetic we have nothing else to offer.

Just curious, does anyone have any thoughts on retaining Bryce Paul on the defensive staff? Heard this fall that he was really doing a good job and the players liked him.

If you're hiring someone and you have to pay $20 mil to buy them out of their current contract, are you still going to pay them the same on their new contract? Or will you have as much to allocate to supporting staff/NIL funding? Absolutely not.

A low buyout would absolutely be a negotiating lever for Matt. Lower salary, but that means when you leave you can negotiate a higher salary (HE JUST SIGNED A $70+ MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT) and more salary for your support staff and NIL.

On the Iowa State side, budget strapped as we are, saving $2+ million on salary to afford to retain your coach and keep his staff intact and sustain success. In exchange, you don't have a larger windfall if/when he leaves.

It's something that made sense on both sides, but I doubt either party thought that buyout would be exercised so soon after lowering it.

BB saying today that Heacock and Rasheed have not been confirmed as going to Ped St and are still coming into the football offices. Don’t know what to make of that. Brent said they helping with the coaching transition.
I also saw a picture from the last day or two of Heacock speaking to the women's basketball team wearing Iowa St. gear.
