No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

Play the freaking walk ons for all that I care. What a huge middle finger to anyone in the program that actually wants to be at Iowa State.

It’s not like ISU has some robust history of going to bowl games. Just beyond stupid we would ever turn one down
Also diminishes all the comments players have made in the past about how much they appreciate the fans.

JP and Campbell both knew there was no money at ISU to counter with. There is no way JP could have swung anything close $80+ million.
With the status of NIL Campbell knew it would only get tougher to compete with the TT and BYUs of the world and decided now was the time to jump.
I want to believe it was the money available for NIL and asst. coaches more than for Campbell himself. When you reach above a certain point, the money becomes less important for the coach, its value is replaced by things ISU could never afford. Recruiting ability, unlimited funds and other items.

If we want me make the necessary changes in college sports, you need to stop giving money and stop watching. Won't be renewing my season tickets.

The problem is that Campbell is leaving no staff to lead the team in the bowl game. Unfair to the new guy to get coaches and system and players ready in a couple weeks. Fanbase had Bowl Game in Ireland. Campbell is gutting Iowa State. Campbell could have directed the rest of his staff coach the team in the Bowl with Heacock as HC. He didn’t.
True but for me it would be a chance for the new staff and remaining players to interact before the transfer portal opens. Good for both patties IMO.

I know this a part of broader problems in CFB but this cannot bode well for invites for us in future years. What a sh*t show.

Keep drinking the pollard koolaid. He could have appointed someone to coach the team for the bowl. It might have been all 2nd , 3rd stringers and walk ons that play, get beat 77-0 but at least it would be kids that care about the university & wanted to be here and not worry about their next paycheck.. people constantly want to make excuses for this clown..
I certainly am not drinking the Pollard koolaid. Pollard needs to change his stance on how modern college athletics are and be less of a control freak, but it definitely is not fair to blame him for the players deciding they'd rather not see our third and fourth stringers get absolutely embarrassed on national television to an average Big Ten team.

I mean I think Pollard comes off as a douchey nerd most of the time, but he's good at his job. If you want to roll the dice and try to find someone better I'm pretty sure there are a lot worse ADs out there than Pollard.

KSU is in a different situation as us. Klein may be an upgrade or same level as Klieman and many of the players are ones recruited by Klein. Plus, Klieman is retiring so would assume he is available to coach the team unlike CMC and some of his assistants. Geez.

Can we please fire JP now? Was always a supporter, but all these reports about NIL, and money going to the genral fund and Cytown cant all be incorrect. He seems out of touch at this point.

Since we qualified for a Bowl can the new staff still hold practices? IIRC before we had enough bowls all teams that qualified could practice.

Who cares. I used to love bowl season and could never understand the people (mostly talking heads) that complained about too many bowls. But I hated it when stars sat out as not to risk injury before the draft—gotta protect that future income. Now? Now we freaking pay the players and they STILL sit out bowls. Yet another reason I will never give one nickel to NIL. Put it in their NIL deal—you take money and you play—if you sit out you pay it back. Can you imagine going into work tomorrow and telling your boss you’re sitting out the last few weeks of work because you have an opportunity to get more money at another job? And still get paid? It’s all a BS house of cards that needs to fall down.

So players voted to turn down the bowl game so they can stay healthy and spend the time to look at other schools. I understand the reasoning though as a fan not pleased. Did Penn State turn down a bowl game too?
KSU did, even though they had a more orderly transition.

PSU is in a different boat as they had an interim coach who isn’t starting a new job that led them for the last half of the season.

Well…that’s ONE source. It’s too bad for the players if true. Of course we have no idea about what is rumbling behind the scenes right now that could lead to this decision.
I really wonder who the leaders were in the locker room. This seems odd. You can play in a bowl game and still transfer.
If you just wanted to play football this would not happen.

Yea I can imagine that. Would need to use up all the PTO balance I'd have.
