No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

Can the university sue the players for damages?

Not even a little bit.

Per NCAA rules nothing in their contracts can relate to on field performance including playing.

Plus even if you could, good luck getting future players if you decide to go scorched earth with that approach

I hate Pro sports for the most part. Its a commercial, money hungry, popularity contest. College sports has become worse, all the money, none of the obligations for the money.

The insane amount of money, with no real rules, (NIL cap that is a complete joke, that everyone blows right on past), unlimited transfers with no obligations to your current school, like a contract that protects current schools, in that players pay is connected to contract, dont play, dont pay, transfer out, pay gone, without trade or recoup. etc.

At least in the pros there are actual rules and contracts that mean something, to all of this crap. Now college sports are worse. And I hate it.

Good point. This will not help NIL donations, or opportunities.

It will. It’s just a slap in the face to people that have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours supporting them. Thousands of us flew across the world to support them. To say its because we dont have enough players is honestly horse****. We just watched them play an entire season playing guys that otherwise wouldnt have seen the field without injuries. Let those guys play if nobody else will

Don’t the players sign contracts now? Doesn’t NIL obligate them to play?

the players are being paid by the fans - paid more to play a stupid game than many of us make in a year, even multiple years. Whether they like it or not, they are paid to play a game that exists to entertain fans. This is ********. They should be contractually obligated to play
These are 18 to 21 year olds. C'mon.

What does that mean? He’s 38!!! He was a player, then coach at SDSU (there from 2006 until 2024 except 1 year at FIU) then one year at Wazzou.

That’s very much not a lot of bouncing around. I could see an argument that he hasn’t spent enough time in FBS, but not that he’s bounced around
His father in law was the HC at South Dakota State for 25 years, fwiw.

Take back some of their NIL money then. Poor babies, I dont want to go to work tomorrow anymore either but will still show up.
I do think NIL needs actual contracts that bind the athlete and not just the university to pay them. Make it more like an NFL contract.

Quit blaming this on Jamie. JHC, what's he supposed to do at this point? Blame Campbell. Blame the coaches or Blame the players for deciding as a group not to play. But don't Pollard.
Nah, I'm gonna blame those responsible and accountable, e.g., Pollard. Thanks!
