No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

The situation is still raw enough I’m probably overreacting….but I sincerely hope we can get objective coverage of Rogers and the new regime. Openly pining for Mouser/keeping it “in the family,” while a valid opinion, doesn’t help ingratiate fans to the new coach when it comes from the biggest ISU media personality.

it's a tough needle to thread.

I'm more interested in if the AD will let Walters and Chris do their book event.

Seems hypocritical to say MC deserves to have a statue in Ames, yet when given the chance to hire someone internal to continue the legacy & we chose not to.

If that only person wanting the job was Mouse, I don't fault the decision as he was quite underwhelming as an OC. Someone else on staff would have been much better, but if no one wanted it & Campbell was adamant on who he wanted/no flexibility, then it was just a major difference of opinion. But if he's held in that high of regard to have the statue narrative, then someone internal should have fit, but since it appeared to only have been Mouse, then I think the Campbell camp had their head in the clouds.

The speed of naming Rogers as the new coach was a negative move. Meeting with the players first should have been paramount. But treat them like professionals in the NFL. We (ISU) will make the decision best for the entirety of ISU & if someone outside is more qualified & better candidate, we'll make that choice. The immediate announcement came across as a FU move, at least IMO.

The nature of college football nowadays makes this all a cluster-**** in how to deal with & address. No way to avoid all mistakes, but I think waiting 1 or 2 days & giving players a little more involvement, or at least time to give their voices, would have been a better route. Pollard dropping the details on Rogers asking him earlier what it would take for him getting the position (which his response as he'd need experience as a HC at the FBS level) was a tell - NO ONE on MC's staff met that standard. To me Mouser was not some svengali worth bypassing this standard, but I think Pollard used it was support for not making that decision (hiring Mouse).

TLDR - seems the parties (Campbell's & Pollard's) were to the point they were never going to be able to come to accepting/coming to a consensus, to the point it comes across as personal. An extremely poor position to be in. It will be telling how the NIL issues are addressed going forward.
Does ISU sell beer stadium wide like everyone else? That should tell you how they will be resolved. If they are I will be pleasantly surprised and relieved. AD is very stubborn as we all know, sometimes this does him well sometimes not.

Yes it’s from multiple that reached out to me and I’d trust not to be biased. There a few biased that also reached out but it was largely a more emotional version of the same. They all want the real story out, and mostly because they think the change is still needed and even if they aren’t here, they care about ISU.

The coaches were pissed because they had no warning from CMC until an hour before the team meeting and then had no time to determine what they wanted to do. Matt had ghosted them, Sukup, and many more the 3 days leading up to leaving. Some of the lower ones didn’t interact with the NIL stuff and liked Ames so were blindsided. Others were pissed because they didn’t get a chance to make a case for some continuity. Not all had to worry about the same NIL concerns as the head coach and very leading recruiters.
Sounds like Campbell burnt some bridges on the way out. I honestly think he had no clue how to handle the whole situation and probably in some way felt guilty so he just straight up isolated himself.

It’s crazy he gets a pass on everything though. Finances suck. NIL sucks. And he gave away the leverage of CMC buyout.
No one has been a bigger JP fan than me, but I absolutely see the other side af the argument after this fiasco. And the whole attempt to snow us with that crap Friday night was disgusting.

Pro coaches, pro athletes, all want to make that big money, it should come with certain obligations, like actually playing in games. Those pro players and coaches that dont want to play in the game, should have to pay the fine.

Total BS of the current state of college athletics. I f...ing hate it!

CMC did not honor his contract. That is what got us here. And now he is influencing a destruction of the program he built. CMC whole focus has been himself as he is leaving. He plans on poaching the program IMO. Iowa State is in the rear view mirror.
The rebuilding will make us appreciate more the next era of good times.

Don’t the players sign contracts now? Doesn’t NIL obligate them to play?
Respect the players. I learned a long time ago that one cannot be motivated unless they want to be motivated. I'm 100 percent behind the wishes of the players. They are banged up and likely disappointed that their coach is leaving. Give the players a break.
the players are being paid by the fans - paid more to play a stupid game than many of us make in a year, even multiple years. Whether they like it or not, they are paid to play a game that exists to entertain fans. This is ********. They should be contractually obligated to play

He didn't though since they are all going with him.....

I think the NIL 'contract' is only just that they get paid but can't legally require players to play in games.

It's interesting because I've been on both sides of the JP thing.

To be seen. But if they do then they are selling their souls for a massive pay raise. Especially if Campbell did ghost them and keep them out of the loop. Especially guys like Mouser/Heacock.

Rogers is 100% gone if he does well and is offered by another team. He's bounced around a lot.
What does that mean? He’s 38!!! He was a player, then coach at SDSU (there from 2006 until 2024 except 1 year at FIU) then one year at Wazzou.

That’s very much not a lot of bouncing around. I could see an argument that he hasn’t spent enough time in FBS, but not that he’s bounced around

I don’t even get what the disagreement / argument is about.
It can only be about Pollard.

There is some expected disagreement about whether Mouser should have been given a shot but that seems like standard message board fare.

Honest question - how could the AD stop Williams from doing a book event?

He’s not an employee of the university.

He'll get tired of how Pollard deals with NIL.
