No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

Fining a program what amounts to 2.5-5% of its NIL budget for essentially being picked over by richer programs seems counterproductive.

It seems like being stubborn about NIL is going to cost us more than the actual ******* NIL.

To me, this means they're completely checked out. Could they not have played and then hit the portal after if they choose?

I thought the window opened after the bowl game we'd presumably play in, but maybe I'm wrong.
Siap

The window for ISU players opens December 10th and closes December 25th

Yeah, well their coach didn’t honor a contract he just signed a year ago. We were all sold a load of bull by everyone in the program including the AD.

CMC did not honor his contract. That is what got us here. And now he is influencing a destruction of the program he built. CMC whole focus has been himself as he is leaving. He plans on poaching the program IMO. Iowa State is in the rear view mirror.

Hot take: Chizik would've had us in a bowl game in 2009 and had some further success. No way he would've stuck around long though.
Hotter take:

He might not have made a BCS title game, but a Cyclone Cam Newton would have been ISU’s second Heisman runner-up.

My guess is after the team meeting today, he’s starting to have one on ones?

At this level? If so, why would he have said 48 hours ago that he expects to play in a bowl game?
Because if there's even a small chance...that's what you say until you are CERTAIN otherwise. Let's not pretend we know what/how this is being talked about behind closed doors.

This 100%. The coaches all left, players don’t want to play. Give back your NIL money clean out your locker and get off campus by 5 and dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Can't argue with this. The business world is tough sometimes. If you refuse to work / "play", good by. Turn in your "badge" and your accounts are all disabled.

This thread exploded and I'm behind so apologies if already addressed...

...but if these players are getting paid now, how is opting out even an option to begin with?
There's nothing to opt out of if we don't accept a bowl invitation.

Hit like but wish I could upvote this 1000 times. Mad at myself for buying into any of it.

And they were pretty much all new starters

I read someplace that he had to replace 70!! players.

Edit. Google Gemini says:

Key Details on the Newcomers:
  • Sheer Volume: Roughly 75 new faces joined the Cougars' roster for the 2025 season.
  • Transfer Portal Impact: This influx was necessary to offset about 60 players departing through the transfer portal.
  • Recruiting Success: Coach Rogers secured 28 new signees on early signing day, including top cornerback Toe Johnson.
  • Source of Talent: New players came from various programs, with a significant number (16) transferring from South Dakota State.

Its happening all over, and a symptom of the wealth gap in society that is now going exponential, historically this does not end well for anyone and brings misery to all.

The NFL is still great. DIII, D II, 1AA and NAIA are still great. College basketball seems to be doing fine. D1college football is what is being ruined. It's a joke and is being ran by a bunch of greedy sleezballs in the SEC, Big 10 and at ESPN.

Barry Alvarez served as honorary captain twice for the Badgers for bowl game.

Seems like we could have bought Danny Mac a really nice Canada Goose coat and give it a shot

It's the NCAA way.

We are finding out what some of us instinctively always knew, CMC is petty as sh*t because of his ego.
Other than leaving I don't know what Campbell has to do with us not going to a bowl, but take this as an opportunity to not get personally attached to whoever the coach happens to be.

Sorry if I was unclear. I wasn't talking about players opting out of a bowl game we were playing in. I was talking about players voting not to go to a bowl in the first place - which is my understanding of why we aren't going. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

How do players who get paid to play football get to choose that they aren't going to play anymore and still get paid?
