No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

If the players don’t want to be here they need to go and it’s best to get all those guys out now and start fresh. You’re delusional if you think any of the high impact guys are staying anyway. Not to mention it’s 3 more weeks for the old staff to recruit guys on the fence. **** it. Burn it down and start over in the portal.

Like the people mad at Campbell for taking a top tier job and doing it the right way, you have anger issues if you're mad at a bunch of college kids for deciding as a group they're not up for a game in these circumstances. My god, so much ugliness being revealed in the fanbase.

If Campbell was still our coach and we declined with an 8-4 record, sure you could be mad. But this? Get over it.

We have a lot of emotional midgets on this site. And have for a while.

This sucks, but we don’t gain much from playing in a meaningless bowl with a new staff coming in. Just flush it and let Rogers get to work on his new program.

This is the current reality of college athletics. Thanks I hate it here.

There needs to be some NFL like changes to the college football calendar just blowing the whole thing up for a school with 3 weeks to go in a season isn’t sustainable in my opinion.
A preschooler could put together a better college football calendar than these dumb ***** who run the sport now.

So Pollard doing no search, not fully assessing the pros and cons of promoting existing staff, and having a few guy announced before Campbell was even done with the team meeting has apparently backfired worse than we expected.

Good job Mr G Spot

Just a thought - you already have your 25-26 NIL budget set. Maybe you just rip the $500,000 from the NIL of anyone who goes to Penn State.

Don't blame the players at all. Good decision. I wouldn't be fired up about playing without key players for a piecemeal lame duck staff in a marginal bowl game either. And many players are likely still on the fence contemplating their future.

JP should have been less emphatic about a bowl in his presser however. Should have seen this train coming.

And the overreaction crowd is back in full swing. It was a nice 18 hour break.
100% this. I wasn’t expecting ISU to play their bowl game when Matt announced he was leaving. The players will be spending the next couple weeks trying to figure out what they want to do (stay or transfer). The remaining coaches are figuring out where they will coach next year

And you expect these coaches and players who are going through a TREMENDOUS transition period to conduct meaningful practices and play in what amounts to an exhibition game where some ISU fans would spend hundreds/thousands of dollars to watch a product on the field that’s not representative of the program?

I am not shocked at all by this news

Do we get some NIL money back from each player and Salary back from each coach that quit on Iowa State. That is what this is, players and coaches who took money to play football games now refusing to coach or play the football game.

This is bull ****.

My donation and tickets prices better not increase next year. Get's harder and harder to justify my families dollars to coaches and players who do not really give a **** about the fans or school for that matter.

End rant.

Correct. If the team had voted to go. I’m fine with no bowl. Watch our championship basketball team under our former South Dakota State Coach.

The fine is less than that simply because they would have lost money on any of the lower tier bowls anyways. I'm guessing the difference in actual cash out the door is roughly half.

But this should be expected. Campbell's staff wants to get started working on their roster at PSU because they have no recruits to speak of until all of the ones who signed and had coaching changes are all thats available. They need to evaluate the portal.

I also expect a significant number of players to want to start taking visits. As a coach I wouldn't let someone halfway out the door play on my team.

If I had a nickel for every time someone posted something along the lines of "I'm done with college football!" I'd be able to fully fund our NIL.
Sorry Drax. It must be hard to live in a world of absolutely literal communication.

This whole thing is costing us a ton of money! Penn State only pays us $2 million. We have to pay ******* Washington State $4 million. Now 500k.

I bet Jamie cut a shrewed deal and is signing Rogers for $4 million.
The fact that Matt's contract only had a $2 million buyout in it is on Matt... not JP. Matt wanted it that low, so another school would come in and get him out of here.

Was JP supposed to demand it be way higher... and then Matt walks?

No, but you hope you hire a guy that can at least make the players consider playing a ******* bowl game.
He was not in the meeting. It was the old coaches and the player leadership that appears to be leaving to Penn St. you think those guys are going to say we should play a bowl game which would make them uncomfortable and make them stick around longer?
