***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

I heard years ago from October to March we get 20-30 of these. But some are not as strong as others. Some have minimal effect on the weather. Can someone here elaborate for me?
Middle daughter was performing in Handel's Messiah at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City last night. Usually that's a little bit over an hour from home up Highway 1. When we went in, it was just starting to snow. At intermission, there was maybe an inch on the ground. Total **** show afterward. I'm glad I brought the F-150, but it took just about three hours to get home on unplowed roads. People with AWD SUVs were reminded that means very little in this kind of weather. Lotta folks driving at 15 mph.

Average snowfall is 36 inches for the winter. Most places are already at half that in central Iowa and we’re only a week into December. It’s still fall yet.
Going to be a LONG winter I suspect. Hell when I watched some videos of what they were predicting for Winter they seemed to think January & February would be the worst of it. At least snow wise.
At this point we’ll be going for the record books, just like the summer rainfall.

Thursday morning was also 14 below.
Yup got another 8" of snow last night which was kind of a shocker.
KCCI had Ames with 8 inches of light fluffy snow, the snow blower just ate it up, took me 45 minutes to blow out the driveway, the walks and scoop the back deck. Beats the hell out of the heavy wet stuff we had last weekend. January and our next cruise cannot get here fast enough.
I live in Des Moines and we definitely got more than 1.6”
Airport they said. No doubt it's scattered all over.
I'd guess closer to 4" in Johnston.
