Surprise! Ground blizzard possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Should see some melting Tuesday afternoon to form a crust on top of snow. But if these gusts materialize it will be ripped off. Plenty of snow on the ground north of I80 to create quite an issue. Strongest winds from 10PM building south through 4AM with a slow easing after sunrise. Gonna be quite the mess in northern Iowa it looks like.

High likelihood of late starts Wednesday morning or even no school depending on how long that lasts and available snow to fuel the blizzard conditions.

the weather so far this month has been complete crap. Bitter cold and lots of snow/ice. I'm sick of winter already and it is not even mid-December. Usually I don't feel like this until late January. I can't grill because my deck and grill are covered in a foot of snow. my car is sliding all over due to snow pack that has turned to ice. the slush sticks to my car and then falls off in the garage, which makes my garage floor slippery. The worst of the weather happens on the weekends which messes with any weekend activities. My kids are getting stir crazy because they can't go outside as much and they are trashing our house. It cakes me twice as long to get out the door in the morning because I have to put on a bunch of layers for the kids. Just a pain in the a**.
Get through the crap this weekend it LOOKS like next week is suppose to be a nice warming trend and dry conditions.
The scramble just getting everybody bundled up to survive the walk to the bus at the end of the driveway is basically a 5k every morning.
I have a 3' wood lath I keep outside the garage door that I use to scrape the back of the wheel wells clean of the big ice/slush clumps before I pull in. Keeps the garage floor a lot cleaner/drier. Works in combo with my tuck under garage staying quite a bit warmer than outside.
Suprised with the amount of schools cancelling activities this evening in the Cedar Rapids area? Thought it was just going to rain...
