Dear Matt Campbell,

I have no ill will for CMC. Go chase that natty. Can’t fault you for that.

The way it went down doesn’t sit well though. PSU mangled their search, went through the Rolodex and hit with CMC. I guess I’d feel better if ISU had a killer season and he was a red hot prospect. We lost to Colorado…

Is CMC just kind of...gone? Like no sort of presser or something?

That's kind of weird but I guess it's how it is now.

I doubt he has a presser in front of ISU media. I imagine he will say some really nice things about ISU at his PSU presser though. It is kind of how it is though nowadays.

He very well could put out a statement this weekend though.

Bill Snyder turned down every significant job in the country in both college and the NFL a majority of his time at K-State. It can be done.
And this is who Campbell referred to early on as being someone he wanted to model his program after.

It was Campbell who brought Snyder’s name into the picture.

It appears to me that Pedo State hired James Franklin 2.0. I suspect that Pedo State realized that they might have acted to quick in firing Franklin- after all of their initial offers to potential replacements where met with their target coaches getting increased commitments from their current institutions.

Coaches are people. CMC gave ISU what it has NEVER had in any of our lifetimes. Having lived (suffered, really) through the Criner years, this is true bliss. CMC has family to account for in decisions. And guess what? He probably wants a NIL budget that might actually give him a shot down the road at a Natty. You really think that is happen at ISU under the current budget?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and guess you are under, say, 30 years old. Because this is a very, very poor take.

8-4 consistently at Iowa State makes you a legend. 8-4 consistently at Penn State gets you fired. Matt had it SO good here.

Thanks for giving us some good years and big wins.

Thanks for preaching loyalty and trusting the process.

Thanks for selling us on the journey.

Thanks for selling us that you were loyal.

Thanks for selling us hope of climbing to the top.

Thanks for being just like all the other coaches.

You don’t give a **** about the fans, the community or the players.

You really do just care about a paycheck.

You are going to a school that should’ve been demolished for the worst scandal in the history of college football.

You are going to a school that that you were at least their 5th option.

You are going to make a lot of money. You might even make a lot of money, but you’ve sold your soul for something you have told us you aren’t.

I hope you lose every game you play, even against the hawks.

I hope you swim in your cash and drown in the expectations of Happy Valley because they don’t care about anything other than winning football games.

They didn’t care about a pervert hurting children for years.

You had a good thing here.

We will be fine.

You’ll be fine, but you are not the person you said you were, and I feel stupid for falling for your schtick.

I hope you fail. I hope for nothing good to happen to you in the football world.

At least the slimeballs like Kiffin are honest on being a *****.

Man, I thought you were different Matthew, but tonight proves I was fooled.

Good Riddance and **** you.

I may dislike Matt Campbell leaving, but I don't dislike it THAT much.

Yep.

**** Cael Sanderson.

**** Fred Hoiberg.

**** Matt Campbell.

(although I do cheer for Cael one day, the day he makes the Hawkeyes his ***** at Nationals)

Otherwise, they can all EABOD.

And let us not forget KJ Kindler leaving Iowa State to win multiple national championships in gymnastics for Oklahoma.

What was his other options if he was offered the job. Not take it? Would you do that if you wanted the new job. Doubt it. I always enjoyed the nut cup stories on here. Sounds like you need to get yours out so the stress can be relieved.....it does work that way, doesn't it? I wish ISU well and think 8-9 wins a year will continue.
Yes, not take it. Direct quote his own words “I am about building something not being someone”. Like another poster said shame on me for believing that rot.

Hoiberg always always stated his ultimate goal was the NBA. You just didn't listen.
Care to provide a link? He always said he f’ng hated recruiting and now coaches a college team that has never won a tournament game. Also his dream job?

We really need to stop hiring these young up and coming coaches. Jamie drops the ball again.
I hate to say it, but we might have just set ourselves up for a repeat of the Campbell situation. Let's say that Rodgers has equal success or more, it will not be long before the big dogs come sniffing around to take him. You have to hope if that happens that Rodgers unlike Campbell decides that coaching at ISU has a lot of rewards and few of the hassles that being at a "have" school comes with. He is roughly at the same age as
Campbell was when he came to Ames, so it could happen that he is the at the top of the coaching search in 5 to 10 years from now.

Good to see you around here again.

Neither Pennsylvania or Ohio are Midwest Though. East coast weirdos.
We will have to agree to disagree. Remember, I may have not always been right on here posting, but I have never been wrong! Go ISU!

My thoughts on Matt Campbell to Penn State:

I’m not going to lie — the last 36 hours have been gut‑wrenching and saddening to say the least. The man who lifted Iowa State Football to heights we never thought possible is gone in the blink of an eye, and that man is Matt Campbell.

It’s impossible to fully capture what Campbell has meant to Iowa State since arriving in Ames in 2015. He is, without question, the greatest coach to ever lead an athletic program at Iowa State University. In 10 years, he became the all‑time winningest coach in school history, took two teams to the Big 12 Title game when no one believed it could be done, delivered a school‑record 11 wins in 2024, and so much more.

He and his staff brought in incredible players, coaches, and families who forever changed the fabric of Cyclone football. We got to witness unforgettable moments: the 2017 team that put Iowa State on the national scale, the 2020 squad that shattered expectations, and the 2024 team that will forever be remembered as the best in school history. And through every storm in college athletics, Campbell stayed. He chose Iowa State when he could have left countless times, and for that, #cyclONEnation and I will always be grateful.

Yes, it hurts to see him leave for Penn State. But more than anything, I feel appreciation. He owes Iowa State nothing, and we owe him everything. His loyalty, his passion, his belief in this place — they were second to none. I’ll be cheering for him and his staff in Happy Valley, and I hope they reach the mountaintop someday.

Thank you @ISUMattCampbell. Thank you for all the countless memories and moments you brought to our lives. I can't wait to see the statue we build for you in Ames, Iowa, someday.

But as one chapter closes, another begins. A new era is here in Ames with Jimmy Rogers taking the reins as head coach. The foundation Campbell built is strong, and now it’s Rogers’ time to lead the program forward. The future of Cyclone football is still bright, and I cannot wait to see where this journey takes us all.

Thanks for following along to all of our coverage @CycloneFanatic. We will bring it to you all in the coming days. Love you, Cyclone Nation. You guys are what is still great about college sports. Best fanbase in the country, hands down.
