Hard to say anything decisive from one (exhibition) game of course, but they looked a lot better than a ~ .500 team to me (they were 17-16 (7-13) last year), unless we're also not much better than a .500 team...
I wasn't aware Martinelli lead the Big 10 in scoring last year. He's one of those guys who doesn't look that good but he just gets the ball in the hoop.
One game doesn't mean much for what will happen on the season's records and speculating is pretty pointless, especially in basketball, especially in an exhibition.
I don't know why this keeps happening.
There were already a few 'this doesn't look like a Top 25 team' takes so I think it's hopeless (and really weird).

ZRF was the most intense one, was last seen I think on KU's boards.
Although imo plenty of the 'Didn't like the hiring process' types start to pop up when things don't go well with kind of a slanted 'told you so, look at X coach at Y school with a better basketball program and history did today' type of post.

TJ has well exceeded my expectations as a coach.
I just hope some of the young guys like Batemon and Pleta get up to speed enough to be contributors soon because there won't be much opportunities for development once conference play starts. If they aren't playing meaningful minutes by then, they aren't likely to stick around. That is just the way college sports is nowadays.

Unless his showing in these exhibitions is misleading, Toure looks like he's a home run so I'll be pretty pleased with that even if Batemon and Pleta don't work out great or at all. The last two guys we've had who were ready to play Day 1 have turned out good (Tamin, Milan).

Part of the success at the line was due to the bigs not shooting many. Buchanan and Mulder only shot a combined 4 (and made 1). That probably isn't going to get much better since they both have career FT% in the 50s. Pleta didn't shoot any, but he is more of a 70% FT shooter.
Mulder played 4 minutes against Creighton and was whistled for zero fouls.

Actually, he only played 3 minutes against Creighton. That's why I said we only had a sample of one game.
I think he looks strong. Game is a little too fast for him offensively but he showed in the NW game that he will get after it on defense.
