ISU FB Positives

This team is doing many things well, which is why these losses have been so frustrating. We would have won on Saturday if it weren't for turnovers. We are currently 94th in the nation in turnover margin. Get that corrected, and the wins will come back.
Felt like we should have won that game by multiple scores, but we lost by 14. Maddening. The 3 turnovers and failing to score another 2 times we got inside the red zone. Probably the best I've ever seen an Iowa State team move the ball consistently, especially against a good defense. Then we'd do something really stupid to keep points off the board. Worst red zone offense I can remember and it's been bad all season. That combined with the terrible 3rd and long defense.......

We're close. Last year's team won pretty much every close game. It's really hard to do that two years in a row. If they can find the intestinal fortitude to break through the funk they're in, they can still do great things. I loved the aggression that we started with on both sides of the ball against BYU. It felt like we were taking more chances and dictating some things. On offense, taking shots, on defense bringing extra people somewhat regularly from all different directions. With our top corners out, I think sitting back and playing it "safe" just isn't going to get it done. I hope to see more of that.

I thought the play calling was very good/excellent in the first half. A lot of new plays that were added were successful. 2nd half play calling wasn't bad but was restricted because of the score.

This is a great point I've seen made several times since Saturday. Mouser isn't perfect but the plays were there on Saturday, the OC doesn't throw/catch the ball.

I thought our defense looked good when we were aggressive and blitzing, during the first quarter and a half, making the QB get rid of the ball quicker than he wanted.

Then we stopped? There probably was a reason for it,.. I hope.

I know that we're all feeling down, but I did want to try and think about some positives.
  1. Tyler Perkins was awesome at holding the ball for Kyle K. He fielded a couple of ground ball snaps today.
  2. Will McLaughlin had 2 sacks in the 1st half. The first sack helped lead to a punt and the 2nd sack kept BYU to a field goal. Not sure I saw him in the 2nd half.
  3. #25 (Josh Patterson) who I have never seen on the field before and is not on the depth chart, but he had a nice PBU on BYU's #11 that kept BYU to a FG.
  4. Abu Sama looks like he keeps getting better. I don't know RB stuff, but it looks like he is starting to make the right cuts/reads vs trying to bounce everything outside.
  5. Carson Hanson looked good. Glad to have him back.
  6. Ben Brahmer is incredible. I think TEs in general are amazing.
  7. Kyle K is back which is great.
Feel free to add anything I missed. Only positive things here; no negatives. Negative stuff is for other threads.
Bruised bicep. In a sling post game. Thats gotta hurt.

Here’s a positive: We just all need to donate all disposable income to We Will and everything will be fine.

Some of you guys have the worst sarcasm detectors I've ever seen.

Or at least, I think you do. I can't imagine that guy is being even a little bit serious. Maybe he is and the joke's on me.

And it's not that the turnovers are bad luck/fluky (think of Rocco's INT at Ark St that bounced out of the receiver's hands) it's that they're the absolute most avoidable dumb assed plays we could have made in those situations.

Fans tossing BYU's footballs out of stadium.....ball boy flipping out......
SAD....but was my favorite parts of the game....

ONE more WIN!....don't care which one.....but git R done!

The screeching TV gal they hired in the past to get the crowd juiced has faded from memory. Weather has been good. We haven’t got blown out. It’s a Cyclone State (screw Hayden). We caught K-State & Iowa early. There are so many NFL & College coach openings that Campbell can’t be on all the lists. Carson Hansen is back.

Our playcalling/execution on the first offensive play of the game is top notch. Kind of goes down hill after that, but we've mastered play 1.
