F*** The Refs!

It’s not the same. Inside the upright means inside the entire upright. The NFL one is clear, like you mentioned. It can be above the upright as long as it doesn’t go outside the outer plane. However, the NFL uprights are 5 ft taller than the NCAA uprights, so it doesn’t comes into play as much.
The game highlights were posted recently in the Postgame thread. That Iowa field goal was never inside the goal posts in its entire flight. He kicks it from the left hash basically so it starts outside the goal post. It hooks left almost the entirety of its path. At best it went directly over the goal post. But from where it was kicked, it never was inside the goal post. That ref just was ready to raise his arms and only an obvious miss would have stopped him. People like that should not be referees.

Someone please post a link of this FG miss.

We literally cannot tell when it hooked, because it hooked a ton seemingly after it went through. I’m not saying it was right or wrong, but there is no way anyone except the official directly under the upright could make the call.

A ref who did HS and college games told me a good crew never had to measure. They know where first down is and they either mark it as one or make it short.

This is true, and it’s emphasized in official training. The line judges are supposed to have the line-to-gain pictured in their heads, and have a darn good idea if it’s been reached as they come from the outside to spot the ball as it’s downed.

You could be right, except about the ref being "ready to raise his arms", that's just dumb, but there is no angle that is better than the guy standing underneath the upright. Certainly the camera angle we had was no where near better.

Watch the kickers reaction immediately after hitting the kick. He drop his shoulders and his head HE thought he missed it.

That was tight. I believe the rule is if any part of the ball goes over the goalpost then the kick is no good. Looking at the replay, I'm not 100% convinced it was completely inside the uprights

But it's hard to argue with an official who is directly beneath the upright

And these were the same officials that never saw Iowa holding one time the entire game.

Call me a pessimist or a negative strategist, but that first down call for Iowa where the ref 'left' his position to stop aggressive post play activity and (corrected after watching the replay) he dropped his bean bag well before the yard to gain. Oddly, however, when he got back he just picked it up. There must be some rule that says if you have to leave your position, you defer judgement to another ref. But, if that's the case, why even drop your bean bag? A very odd sequence of events.
I noticed that and replayed it a few times. The ball ended up being placed far ahead of where he dropped the bean bag.

iowa State’s wideouts were having trouble getting separation. They were getting held most of the game.

As stated in the in game forum refs cost a win. Yes we playedlike **** but both things can be true.

Refs didn’t drop passes or direct our running backs into three unblocked defenders for a loss. Yeah, the picked up PI sucked, but all Rocco has to do is throw it anywhere in the vicinity of Brahmer and we get that call. That pass looked like it was thrown by the field goal holder.

I think Rocco is dinged up, hasn’t been. himself the past couple games. Hope if so he can heal up over the bye week.

Yeah, I'm sure that sounds great as you type it but it doesn't change the rules.

I agree that the interference didn’t affect the play. So then let’s assume the interception is good, but there is holding on the defense after. Was the ball intercepted in the end zone ? That would be a safety
