Mega Mart coming to Des Moines area

Buc-ees has to be experienced to be believed. Only way to describe it is a comparison- mega everything w/atmosphere of perfect day of tailgating at Trice. My wife is an addict, I drove 250 miles out of my way on a trip so she could get Buc-ees nuggets among other trinkets, happy wife happy life.
Huge fan of But-ees myself, every time we go by the Costco in Ankeny I tell my wife, "what a great place to open a Buc-ees", not going to happen soon, but they are moving into the upper Midwest. A Buc-ees in Ohio will be one of eleven they plan on opening in 2026.

Now if the state would do away with controlling alcohol distribution and allow Mega Liquor Marts. I would be all in!

Not that Buc-ees or many chains would care but there is a Caseys going in on the S side of 36th there.

I've seen videos of people touring Buc-ees for the first time on social media. Hoping to head up to the one in Colorado that is about an hour north of Denver next week.

Obviously, she must wear the pants in the family.

Caseys is building three more in Ankeny. Kwik Star is building that huge truck stop south of Sams. The amount of gas stations in Ankeny is completely absurd and they just keep building.

By my count, there will be 15 Casey's locations in Ankeny when those 3 finish building.

This sounds terrible, but I’m happy for all of you who are excited.
Never been to a Buc-ee’s but I’ve heard other people claim they are the cleanest gas stations they’ve ever seen. I agree this sounds like a huge monstrosity but Branson is already an over the top tourist trap.

I just think about myself walking past rows of fuel pumps and then display after display of magnets with my name on it and t-shirts as far as the eye can see…I don’t know that a super clean bathroom is enough. But I see the joy on the faces of others as they look at those things, so I get that not everyone is like me.

Buc-ees is hell on earth to me.

I think super clean bathrooms with no waiting would be my #1 reason to stop. I also hear they have good food.

We passed a buc-ees on the way back from Orlando last winter and the traffic was backed up all the way down the off-ramp from the highway. It would have taken an hour to get gas.

In that case I wouldn’t stop.

Not sure why all the hating on Buc-ees, they pay a very good wage, unlike Casey's and others, many starting over $20 an hour plus benefits. As others have stated the restrooms are large to handle a lot of people and cleaner than the one in your house. They have a full time attendant in each that does nothing but clean it all day long. Very good brisket sandwiches, and baked goods. Last one we were at in Georgia I counted over 200 stalls to gas up your vehicle. They also do not allow semi's on their property, even the gas tanks are off site and they refill them there and it's pumped down to the station underground. They can be a little overwhelming the first time you stop, but it's well worth it. Just to see the entire operation if for nothing else.
