Jontez Williams out for the year

I remember people saying our season was done when kyle kempt was hurt, then this kid named Brock stepped in. I don’t know who will step up but apparently many on here know we have no good corners left
Not to mention when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!

I haven’t seen anybody claim we have no good corners left.

The concern is the same when Jontez had to be inserted earlier in his career: it takes reps for the young guys being thrown to the wolves, and losses become more likely.

In a season where some such as Ben Bruns are claiming this as the best Iowa State team ever, you kinda maybe wanna max out and get somewhere in the postseason besides the Pop Tarts Bowl. That takes more thought than our coaching staff was giving to injuries in the fourth quarter last game.
So we have decent corners left? Make adjustments. You can ***** and moan (you’ve done an excellent job of that) or you can do what good coaches/leaders do; move on and work with what you have. I’m sure it matters more to the players than the fans.

Come on folks. 3 minutes left in the game he shouldn't have been there. That's a fair criticism. He likely would have hurt it eventually either way unless it was just a freak accident so no it's not fair to say if he wasn't in there he never gets hurt.

I mean, you're right of course that it could literally happen on any play. If not the end of this game then it could have happened in the first quarter of the next game.

But that just broadens out the point not to necessarily blame it on him playing in a specific quarter and why its important to minimize the number of plays for key players whenever possible as each time the ball is snapped every player has a certain % of risk. Over time, an increased number of plays will result in an increased number of injuries.

(Also, on a less related note, why it can be an advantage for teams in easier conferences that blow through weak competition where they can pull players more regularly, and thus their odds are greater that they enter the postseason with fewer injuries)
Hey...we don't have time around here for measured well-thought-out logical points that are entirely fair, but effectively critical.

This is the Cyclone Fanatic board!

If your best argument is that I’m “******** and moaning” (yet another logical fallacy in a thread full of them) that’s not a real great supporter of your argument.

No f*cking duh the staff will move on and work with what they have. Thats their single reasonable option. The point is it’s not an option that they needed to force upon themselves. I’m not a staff member; it’s not my job to stop “b*tching and moaning.”

Pointing out entirely preventable flaws made by some of the highest paid employees in the state is quite reasonable and only fandom blinds one from seeing that.

I would love to know why he was even in the game during garbage time. Particularly after you already lost one of your best DBs earlier in the week. It’s just inexcusable and was totally avoidable. This one has to fall squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff.
Something, something, something, about the starters needing game experience to "build chemistry" instead of playing the backups.

Oh sorry, that's basketball.

It is so easy to be Monday morning quarterback. My personality is to be a little bit of a worrier, but one thing I don’t do is dwell on the past. Next man up. I’m glad Taylor and Bell have gotten significant snaps. Both have shown they are capable. It sucks to lose Copper and Williams, but the fact is we can’t change it. Time to see what guys like Beni and Coffey offer as backups.

And 'many of us' don't know or remember what game conditioning and reps mean and aren't the coaches that spend hours going through the rationale behind who plays when or for how long.

It could have been a technique thing, or communication or whatever wasn't going well that needed real game reps.
Lol, I had a feeling you already posted something similar to this before I even read all the replies.

tough break for the defense, but we sill have the Professor to make it work.

Is losing an NFL caliber corner a bad thing? Yes, yes it is. But someone is going to play corner, and it doesn't mean suddenly they will be giving up 45 ppg.

And I DO trust the Professor to figure it out. He had 3 guys from Pissant Parish, IA starting at LB last year at times, and he found a way to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

What it DOES do is put more pressure on the offense, imho. Combined with kicker issues, I think Mouser is going to be allowed to be even more aggressive. That will probably bite them in the ass a game or two, but it also will likely allow them to win a game that maybe you didn't think they would.

We also had Rocco running the ball late when the game was in hand. There were several questionable decisions towards the end of the game. What a freaking bummer though. Hopefully they both come back strong and come back for another year.
Rocco running late/being in at all was strange. Broadcast crew was calling it out. Count me in the camp of being perplexed by that, Jontez and Orange but it's water under the bridge.

This team really knows how to pile up injuries all in one position. Sounds like there are some athletic guys that they can throw out there. Hopefully we are not burned several times on Saturday. Rocco and the offense might need to score 35 this week.

On Williams and Blum they said he could go back in and now he is out for the year.

not going to act like I am in the know or know what they had heard post-game. Maybe they were just relaying info from the staff. I'm sure they will address it on a future pod.

Going forward, I (respectfully) think they're full of **** when it comes to injuries. Includes the staff and anyone in the "know".
Perhaps they did an MRI and it was worse than anticipated? Not sure why you think anyone has to be called full of ****.

Cool.

No fear, in 6 weeks you can get back to losing your mind about ISU top 8 basketball players getting the same amount of minutes in a bye game as a bunch of other P6 conference teams.

Technically,

You can play without an Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

See:

Heinz Ward
John Elway

Rub some dirt on it Jontez and get out there!

Joking…..but true!

And before that, things were really in the air for the program in general after the last Jacob Park, uh, 'game'.

Iowa State vs. Oklahoma final score: Cyclones shock Sooners in Norman | SB Nation

That's not to say things will be this huge in this situation, but it's a long season.
