*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Arkansas State Game(Day) Thread ***

Overby and Sowell have both dropped some passes that were catchable. Both are tall and lanky. I think they'll make those contested catches if they can add 10 pounds of muscle in the off season.

Looked like ASU speed was much better than ISU. This was our first game on turf. Refs were very generous to ISU. Mouser was bad. Heacocks coverage was too soft. LBs had poor angles and reactions. DL was playing patty cake instead of wrapping up. WR had drops and poor route execution. RBs were studs. Raynor outgained Rocco on the ground 83-4. On one play, Rocco rolled right, had 10 yards open to run, but stopped and passed the ball into the backside of a defender. ALL opposing teams (except USD who were blown out 55-7) utilize running QBs - it's like printing free money. Rocco/Mouser need to accept this reality. Outstanding catches by Brown, Townsend, and Tre Bell.

Bell and Cooper saved us on many occasions. Cooper caught that guy by his shoestrings and I couldn't believe he got there. Bell had lots of big plays other than just the interception and man he showed off athleticism with that.

Rocco seemed to make choices he usually wouldn't in terms of not taking the 5-10 yards on the ground. Not sure if there's a reason, but it surprised me.

In the end I think there were so many factors here for the upset...heat, road game, team that almost never gets a ranked team at home, already facing two rivalry games, could go on. People were wrong to peg USD as the dangerous trap game, it was this one all the way and in the Big 12 it can be about anybody if we don't show up ready. The spread for the USD game and this game should have been flipped (21pts and 13pts).

If ISU does what it needs to do no one will give a **** about this game. People convincing themselves that this performace is what will keep ISU out of the playoffs are nuts and slaves to the moment. ISU is 4-0, which doesn't happen all that often, and it's probably the toughest 4 game stretch to start a season any ISU team has ever played. Relax. Anyone would have taken these results with enthusiasm before the season started.
An awkward looking road win is still a win.

There's a reason everyone was ******** about this game from the moment it was scheduled. It's hard for any team to get up for a game like this, particularly with its placement in our schedule. They found a way to struggle through it, as good teams do.

I thought the secondary was nails. Bell and Cooper were studs today. Williams had good coverage on some balls too.

LBs were really bad. In coverage, gap assignment, and pursuit angle. They looked good in the first quarter, but after that they looked so slow and undisciplined. I’ll just chalk it up to heat and fatigue, but that Arizona game is going to be tough.

Explain to me like I’m 12 where the snap or hold was off on the missed fg.
I think he meant on the one Kyle made. The snap was bad on that one. The snap on the missed FG was fine. Kyle wasn't 100% on that one though.

Man I hope not
Dumb attitude. If we are, which we won’t be anyway, then wonderful. Being ranked and highly at that is such a good thing for this program nationally. So many of our fans want to run away from a ranking for some reason and frankly it’s utterly ridiculous. Are we the 14th ranked or whatever we might be this afternoon? Who actually knows! It’s so early. A ton of other teams didn’t look good either. It happens in college football.

Or it can looked at like we’re over rated and a loss then looks worse. It’s not a dumb attitude to hope for accuracy in rankings.

It’s a dumb attitude. We take the rankings any way they happen! Who really knows who is over rated or underrated at this point? Thing is, we are still 4-0, no other team is right now. Are we maybe not that good? Possibly. Or, we are accurately ranked and this team is only getting better.

You can dumb this all you want but there is nothing we can do about where we are ranked except keep winning, which is what we are doing.

I love it when someone dumbs a post and then gets so butt hurt when it happens back that they have to make post addressing it. You can dumb my opinion all you want…I don’t feel dumb for not thinking we should be ranked in the top 10. Sorry it bothered you so much.

What was concerning?
Rocco being hot and cold.
Not running the ball more when it was working.
MULTIPLE special teams errors.
Giving up long painful drives because they could NOT stop Ark St on 3rd and long many times.
Running QB causing fits when we have better ones coming.

MAYBE, HOPEFULLY, it was just an off game caused by the schedule and the heat. And on a day when they didnt have their fastball they did find a way to win against a frisky opponent.

And give Ark St some credit- they got embarassed last week and appear to have played a lot better.

But idk how you couldnt be concerned. They just need to play better, or any CCG or CFP hopes will not be realized. That comment i made about not having their fastball- said same about the Iowa game... they need to get that fastball back.

It makes going undefeated a necessity. If we lose to TCU and still make the championship and lose this performance will eliminate us. If we took care of business the chances improve. It’s unfortunate but true. Big 12 isn’t viewed well nationally and today definitely didn’t help.
I'm sorry to break this to you, but the Big 12 is a one bid league unless both teams enter the CCG 12-0. I personally don't think this team is good enough to run the entire conference schedule, therefore games like this are completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

The conference schedule is much more difficult than it was last year and got some lucky bounces in the UCF and Utah games to even be in that position.

I haven't read everything yet, but has it been reported that any of the LB's were having cramping issues? The reason I asked is it seemed to me (could be wrong as I only watched the game once, late after many beverages) that Goodwin and Lovitt played a lot more than Bacon and Ebel and they are simply not as good. Maybe it was the heat?

I think youre probably close in the grand scheme of things here but some of these really good teams losing already does help the possibility of a two loss B12 team to sneak in.
