*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Arkansas State Game(Day) Thread ***

A lot of focus on the offensive game plan and I tend to agree. Came out passing to start both halves. For a coach who likes physical football, why not establish the run. And the Rocco sack when we have 2nd & goal at the 2- WTF. Don't be cute against Ark State, just spread them out and run Carson or Abu. TD guaranteed.

And although it worked at the end of the game, not a fan of the pass on 3rd & 5. There was 1:07 left, run it and even if ISU doesn't gain 5, after the punt Ark State gets the ball back with around 15 seconds. That pass is incomplete and Ark State gets the ball back with 55 seconds.

The coaches decision to go for a blocked punt was also a head-scratcher. Our offense was rolling, set up a punt-return and let Rocco do his work.

But my biggest frustration is our defense. Giving up 16 points and forcing 3 FG's is an OK effort. But our defense gave up 160 rush yards to a Sun-Belt team. It was very much like last year where Big12 teams with a mobile QB's had run lanes on the RPO & scrambles. And not being able to control the line/run game allowed Ark State to possess the ball for nearly 35 minutes.
Yeah the pass at the end was risky. Felt like Rocco should've just slide. He had already wasted a few seconds. Like you said, it worked out but it wasn't exactly a high percentage play

You are a good poster, but I’m not buying the heat excuse. It was hot for both teams. Has been hot in Iowa all week.
Side by side, it comes down to scheduling and travel.

We also played our main rival last week in a hard fought game.

So factor that, And the heat….. I was right behind the ISU bench and there was very little excitement on the sideline.

The little things that people do not think matter, all add up.

Lucky to win today.

What the heck did the fire Pollard thread get deleted? That thread would have been a lot of fun tonight. Oh well such is life.

While I am certainly not happy with our performance today, good teams struggling against G5 teams happens, and I am confident in this group of players. For example, Notre dame lost AT HOME to NIU and they made it to the natty. I am confident in our boys and we will get it figured out

Konrardy has to be hurt, right? He didn't look good at all on the missed FG attempt.
He went in the medical tent then was done after that. After the game Campbell said he has been dealing with something for a couple weeks. Doesn’t sound like season ending major, but could be out for a little while maybe. Even small nagging injuries can mess with kickers

Even when your 3+ touchdown favorites and supposedly a playoff team? Barely squeaking by against a sunbelt team that just got blown out by Arkansas? Yes, a win can still be embarrassing
Embarrassing how? If we want an at large bid we need to go undefeated into the conference championship game. If we do that no one will give a **** about this game.

It makes going undefeated a necessity. If we lose to TCU and still make the championship and lose this performance will eliminate us. If we took care of business the chances improve. It’s unfortunate but true. Big 12 isn’t viewed well nationally and today definitely didn’t help.

I’m walking away from this game way less optimistic than I was after Iowa. I thought Iowa played their best game against a rival. Now seeing what Kansas state has done, South Dakota and what we just did. Wondering if we are doing the Hawkeye thing and beating crap opposition and will get beat up against teams that are actually pretty good. Time will tell
