ISU unranked in AP poll

ASU going from 12 to unranked after losing a last minute road game to an SEC team shows you exactly what they will do to B12 teams this year and should scare the **** out of us. The only way into the playoffs is winning the conference championship. That’s it.

I think its more they lost to a bad team that they should have handled.

At a minimum, they should have won (to avoid dropping out of the rankings). Specifically, The first and last TD passes against the ole' defense makes me wonder how good Ariz. State really is. That was just terrible.

ASU deserved to drop out. But it is ******** that Clemson gets a free pass. I guess they played LSU close.

The ESPN power ratings say hold my beer, but yeah both the AP and coaches polls are a bit of a joke.
Does anyone really expect precision? Polls are everyone’s best guess, driven by biases, familiarity and blind spots all at once. And viewed through the exact same lenses.

I always figure that, just like lots of other things, they’re just for fun.

Poll inertia, aside, Clemson will get their due when they play @ Georgia Tech this weekend. I don't think there are enough $2 bills in Clemson, SC to help them out this weekend.

Depending on how things shake out, I do think there’s a good chance that both Iowa State and Utah would get in if they are both undefeated going into the conference championship game. Those would be two top 10 teams at that point.

Or TT. Or TCU. We don't have much of an idea of where anyone stands nationally and especially in the Big 12. Everyone gets way too caught up in results and polls in the first couple of weeks. I enjoy the poll, but we are so far away from the end of the season, it's essentially meaningless in terms of CFP placement. So many things change.

Probably not TCU (we play them week 10).

I'm not sold on Utah until I see them beat someone with a pulse at least.

USF has beaten two ranked teams and is #18…that’s all you need to know about polls. Name brand and big schools get every possible advantage and benefit of the doubt.
Very true but not sure how good Florida or Boise are this year. Time will tell. Congrats to Golesh and crew on their victories.

That's overstating it some. If a 11-1 B12 team lost the CCG, both would get in.

Agree IDK how you get 3. Would need like 3 teams to be 11-1 or something, and the 3-5th place teams in B1G and SEC to be 9-3.

With unbalanced schedules, it SHOULD count a lot on who you beat- quality wins. But of course, every SEC/B1G win is quality, but only a couple of B12 wins are.
