Big 12 vs Big Ten Debate

I don't know what that argument is but it's pretty clear the Big 10 and SEC think they are vastly superior to the Big 12 which is not the case. Good news for your conference is you have the media protecting it, no one defends the Big 12 on national TV because they are protecting their television partners. Just the reality of business.
I don’t think either conference as a whole is vastly superior, plenty of trash teams in every conference. I do think that when it comes to winning a championships they do have a sizable edge primarily due to the talent discrepancy. The expanded payoff format makes this discrepancy even worse because while any team can win any single game having to beat multipule elite teams is pretty difficult with a big talent gap

It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario.

The 5+11 will be loaded with SEC/B1G and whomever the sports media has anointed as the others. At least there’s an appearance of fairness even though we know it’s stacked that way.

The 4+4+2+2 is an outright admission that the XII and ACC are 2nd class citizens. We admit it and we are saying it out loud.

I think we have to favor the 5+11 until something breaks. Signing away our fate to the 2nd tier locks us there. We’ve officially handed the keys to the “P2” at that point.

I wonder what it would take for a massive class action suit against the P2 if they were to breakaway and dozens of D1 schools lost revenue as a result. The billable hours would be insane.

A 3+3+3+3+At Large would be most fair for P4. But I don’t see the P2 moving an inch.
I think the "2nd class citizens" perception is going to be even more present when the committee loads up 8 of the 11 at-large spots with B1G and SEC teams.

Well this is a wild take
What’s “wild” is that Cignetti can arrive at a football wasteland like Indiana, then take a team full of I-AA talent (I.e - players with 0 stars out if high school) and steamroll Big Ten teams immediately. Oh and they beat Michigan too.
Don’t know if that says more about Indiana -or the Big Ten.
But Cignetti has more talent this year.

They got beat by every team with pulse last year and beat immediately. Most of the teams they did get wins over were the dregs or the big ten or had brand new coaches.

He certainly did a great job but also was a massive beneficiary of the schedule.

Says a lot about the Big 10.

Under all proposals the league champion is going to get a bid, that is not going to go away. The question then becomes how many other bids does each league get. The 5-11 will end up with most of those bids going to the B10 and SEC, while the other proposal locked in 2 bids each for the ACC and B12, while giving the B10 and SEC 4 each. I will take 2 bids every year rather than gambling that the league will get 3 teams in every now and then, because otherwise we will only get 1 bid most years.
Four teams from ANY conference is ridiculous, regardless how you get there.

So you are saying at least seven teams in the Big 10 are Dregs? Or 8?

Haha - the schedule that included Michigan, who wouldn’t have offered a scholarship to any player on the Indiana team…

I’m saying that in a league of 18 you will have 8-9 teams in the bottom half of the league. Indiana played all of them last year and avoided most of the top half of the league.

I mean if yo want to defend Indianas schedule last season go for it but that’s a wild take

They won 8 games in the Big 10 last year and didn't play the15th placed team. Glad you admit that half of the big 10 is trash.

Yeah a Michigan team that was in year 1 of a totally new coaching staff who just sent their QB to the NFL along with a bunch of other players. They didn’t even have a QB for most of the season, it was a total rebuild post natty. But with all that they got a 5 point win.

Good year for Indiana but saying they are replacing Michaign after 1 good season is an extremely stupid and shortsighted take

League has 18 teams, the Michaign win was fine in a down year but who is their best win besides that? Nebraska?

Not sure what shifted between last year everyone dumping on their schedule (deservedly so) and now trying to use it to make a point about how good they were/are.

Just some weird takes

If that's the case, then it doesn't really matter what option we pick -- we're losers in all of them.

The idea that Arizona St., Utah, Iowa St. = or > Penn St., Oregon, Michigan was not on my bingo card, lol. Going to be a fun season.

Just saying Michigan doesn’t belong in that group anymore. The “brand” sure, but not the team on the field.
Did you even watch them play last year?
