choose 2 teams

Having read through the thread here and another copy cat thread on another site that shall remain nameless, figured a poll was fitting. mods please merge if possible. I put every team mentioned in each thread minus a few that don't fit my definition spelled out below

rebuild definition: a team expects to win 7+ games year in and year out.

because of that definition, i left out teams like nebraska and tennesse who can probably get to that level fairly easily compared to the teams on the list. teams like nebraska have unrealistic expectations and will probably never reach heights of years past but fans expect it.

consider:
recruiting grounds
other teams in same state (recruiting competition)
other teams in same conference/division (poor arkansas/Rutgers)
academic standardsn (tough go vandy)
geographical appeal (lets face it, midwest is tough to recruit to)
facilities
stadium capacity/fan support

ISU vs. Tech - PFF Players to Watch

PFF loves them some Purdy...

Iowa State @ Texas Tech
Players to Watch:
Brock Purdy is the player to watch in this one as the true sophomore has come into his own as of late and is putting forth elite grades once again this season. He’s the owner of the nation’s highest-graded game as a passer (against UL-Monroe) and against the Texas Tech pass defense that ranks 98th in coverage grade, should have quite the afternoon. The Red Raiders can score with the best of them but it will take a few more big-time catches from star receiver T.J. Vasher to do such a thing against the Iowa State secondary.

Expert Prediction:
Iowa State is the better team and needs a win to stay in the hunt for a Big 12 title appearance. With the Oklahoma schools on the horizon, the Cyclones come out shaky but right the ship in the second half and cruise with another dominant game from Purdy.

NFL: ***Official Week Seven Thread***

The reeling Chiefs @ Denver tonight. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly things can change in the NFL. Two weeks ago KC looked like a virtual lock to play the Pats in the AFC championship, and Denver appeared to be in the running for a top three draft pick. Since then Denver is 2-0 and the Chiefs are 0-2 and in danger of falling into a tie with the Raiders for first place in the West. It's pretty obvious Mahomes is really limited with that ankle injury but their bye isn't until Week Eleven. Tough two weeks after tonight with back to back home games against the Packers and Vikes.

Other games of interest:

MIN @ DET - Must-win for the Lions if they want to keep pace in the North. They've been more competitive than I thought they'd be.

HOU @ IND - Chance for the Texans to put a little distance between themselves and the rest of the division. A win for the Colts creates a two way tie for first place with Indy holding the head to head tiebreak.

NO @ CHI - The return of Mitchell Trubisky looms. Nagy has to find a way to kickstart that offense no matter who's under center. They're wasting a really good defense (again).

PHI @ DAL - Good Sunday night game. Winner takes control of the East. Interesting side note - if the Giants knock off Arizona they'll be one game back of the division leader after this weekend. Didn't see that coming.

TrackWrestling Rankings

https://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/P...twSessionId=ztqbluwtaalodbr&postId=1690004132

These rankings go to 33 per weight.

ISU Team: #11
125: Mackall #11
133: Gomez #6
141: Parker #15
149: Degan #3
157: Carr #10
165: Straw #19
174: Coleman #19
184: Colbray #7
197: Shapiro #28
285: Gremmel #16

I'm excited for the season. Coach Dresser seems to get wrestlers who are willing to live the life, to dedicate themselves to the sport. Although many of our regulars made great strides, I was particularly impressed by how Schumacher and Mulder wrestled when they got their chances. If Okie St. hadn't given up the earned allocation by having the wrestler drop a weight class, Schumacher would have made the tournament as a true freshmen.

If we could we could make as big of an improvement from this year as we did last year, look out!! Here's hoping.

Prohm Press Conference Notes

Says Griffin has taken the biggest steps this offseason. In fact he said he has taken huge steps.Said he has improved rebounding and making shots, especially 3s.
Says he would like Jacobson to be able to shoot around 35% from 3 and Griffin 35-38%.
Conditt is the x-factor for this team. Need him to be a dominant factor on defense and said he has got to take a big step this year.
Nixon has been dealing with a concussion and a groin injury. Has missed about half the practices so far.
Says the schedule is probably the most difficult he has had at ISU.

Line Changes when Newell Returns

When Colin Newell is healthy, how does this change our starting offensive line? I am almost tempted to leave it as it is since this group is starting to play well. I hate it when players loose their spot due to injury, but i almost feel this should be the case. I think Trevor Downing is playing well and should stay in the lineup. If someone does need to come out I think it should be Colin Olson since I am not sure if anyone from the inside can play tackle effectively.

Fun ISU Praise

From Bill Connelly at ESPN:

The 10 teams I have enjoyed following the most this year
Each year, I find myself enjoying specific stories and writing about specific teams more than others. The list tends to change from season to season, but here's where things currently stand:

6. Iowa State. There is an energy to watching Iowa State that you don't always see, especially in home games. The Cyclones overwhelmed TCU and eventually overwhelmed West Virginia as well. They are a serious Big 12 title game contender.

Brought to you by RAGBRAI - It’s like a sh*tshow on two wheels!

ImJustKCClone asks: Why do I never see the question thread until at least 24 hours after closing?

GTO: KC, I think you may have forgotten to flip the hourglass a few times. ;)
Pants: I’ve heard reaction time decreases with age.

BCClone asks: Here is a non dumb question for next week. Why the heck is this in the football forums?

Pants: Typically, mailbags are posted in the forum of whatever sport is currently in progress. You all are the one that insist on taking it away from football. We just answer the questions asked of us.
GTO: Because we do not have a Mailbags forum. Next!

Cy$ with the observation: since this post: Broncos 2-0, Chiefs 0-2. Question for GTO and pants: Did Dandy curse the Chiefs?

GTO: Yes. Is it too late for Dandy to become a Hawkeye fan? She could be the new Vodka Sam.
Pants: Yes. Also, stay the hell away from my team because they’re off to an awesome start.

CySmurf with the classic question with an odd twist: Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell?

Pants: Mary Ann. Mrs. Howell and Ginger are absolutely worthless when you’re stranded on an island. Not only is Mary Ann the best looking of them all, but she’s the most practical in what she can do to help with survival. I don’t know how this was ever a legitimate question as it’s such a no brainer.
GTO: I’ll answer this as a F/M/K. F - Ginger, M - Mary Ann, K - Mrs. Howell. I’d also like to comment that was a nice curveball adding Mrs. Howell in there due to there being a Mr. Howell. Is Mr. Howell into this type of kinky stuff? Would he need to be included in all “activities”? Weird scenario.

BCClone with one for the ladies: Gotta do one for the women, (hey, I’m male but want to see these guys work a little). Ross, Chandler, or Joey? It’s pretty obviously Rachel for the women on the show so no need to go there.

GTO: Agree with Pants that the correct pick was Monica. Never paid much attention to the dudes on that show, as they seemed pretty much interchangeable. On looks alone, I would also go Joey, Chandler, Ross.
Pants: Joey, Chandler, Ross. Also, Rachel isn’t the correct pick, it’s Monica. The show VERY clearly made it understood that she was an absolute freak in bed.

BCClone upon finding out @cyrocksmypants visited WV for the ISU game: Does Pants now have a strong affinity for his cousins?

Pants: The WVU people were absolutely the nicest opposing team fans I’ve ever met. We didn’t get but 20 feet from our parked car before people were offering us beer and drinks. And, while it wasn’t like Austin or anything, there were still some attractive girls there. But to the question, my cousins are either too old or too young, regardless of how they look. That said, if two consenting adult cousins want to bang, as long as they’re not procreating (because there’s actual health issues with that), then by all means, go for it, I don’t care.
GTO: I had a cousin take a run at me once. I had to turn her down, but it wasn’t easy. She was strong as an ox.
Pants: But was she hot?
GTO: This was at an outdoor extended family event. She was about 10 years older than me, could have used an upper lip waxing, and seemed a bit too comfortable dancing barefoot. Was she hot? Enough to make me think about it.
