Friday OT #2 - The Case Is Mistaken Identity

Have you ever mistaken someone for someone else in more than just a passing wave or nod, or been mistaken for someone?

I think I was maybe in 9th grade, and my family was at Dairy Queen getting our ice cream on. This was back when they used to have hard serve in buckets in glass cases. We were all looking at our selections and getting ready to order - I don't know if it was the heat combined with the light, or what, but I all of the sudden started feeling really dizzy. I walked over to my dad from behind, and leaned on his shoulder to make it through without passing out... only to find out that it was not, in fact, my dad, but some nice random middle-aged man with the same stature and haircut. I remember it all of these years later because it was SUPER embarrassing to assault a rando middle-aged man in a DQ at age 14. That's how you get on the news, or in a song by The Police.

What are yours?

Friday OT #1 - Losing My Religion

Thanks so much to @Farnsworth for another great thread idea! (PLEASE never hesitate to send them to me, or feel free to guest!)

What is something that you lost in the past but still think about?

I'm not going to steal Farnsy's examples, because they would definitely not be relevant to me. Mine is much simpler - my husband gave me a beautiful gold necklace with a pearl on it, and I wore it on a work trip. I apparently left it in the bathroom at the hotel and they said they never found it - because the necklace did not make the return trip. It still makes me sad, even though he was kind and got me a replacement.

How about you?

Sam Colbray’s transformation

Hello everyone,

I’m super pumped to be back in Hilton this week. I’ve been itching to get back out there.

to get us pumped for the week, here’s a story I wrote on Colbray’s transformation and the process to getting him to 174. I think there’s some good stuff from both Dresser and Colbray!

https://cyclonefanatic.com/2020/01/wrestling-the-conversation-that-led-to-sam-colbrays-drop-to-174/

let me know any feedback! Hope everybody is having a good week!

Twister Sister Summary - more of the same leads to another loss

I could start cutting and pasting comments from previous postings and it would describe this game. I’ll just summarize:
1. Point guard dribbles and players stand around. Guard dribbles some more.
2. Team plays well for three quarters.
3. Team disappears for one quarter. (This time the fourth quarter as TCU shot 53% and ISU shot 23%)
4. Team loses due to #3.
5. Only three players contribute offensively.
6. Scoring from Rae disappears again

Strange things happened in this game. ISU out rebounded the toads in dominating fashion and yet, TCU had more shots on basket and made more. How does this happen? 18 turnovers. The guard play is just killing this team right now. It sure explains why so many guards were recruited for next year. Any early enrollees?

Nice to see Maddie back in there again. Unfortunately she has to work her way back into being a contributor. Nez seeing less time. Washington and Thurmon aren’t impacting as we might have hoped.

So, the big question is...is this team so limited in the guard court that getting to 50% in league play is a pipe dream? Home court is no longer an advantage. The game is four quarters long and the ladies are playing three. Can this be fixed? Right now I just don’t know.

WBB: Cyclones host TCU Horned Toads tonight in Ames

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team (9-5, 1-2, Big 12) returns to Hilton Coliseum to take on TCU (11-3, 2-1 Big 12) on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. on Cyclones.tv. Iowa State and TCU are 8-8 all-time, as ISU holds a 5-3 edge in Hilton Coliseum.

As a reminder, Hilton Coliseum has instituted a Clear Bag Policy for athletic events. The policy will enhance security while improving efficiency at the entry gates.

Where: Hilton Coliseum - Ames, Iowa
When: Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Projected Starting Lineup: Rae Johnson, Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw, Ashley Joens, Adriana Camber, Kristin Scott
Radio: Cyclone Radio Network/Learfield
Talent: Dave Sprau, Molly Parrott
TV: Cyclones.tv

Possibility Madison Wise might see some minutes for the first time in 10 games. Would expect them to be limited minutes if she does play.

RealtimeRPI predictor has us winning 75-67 if you are into that sor of stuff. NCAA RPI has TCU at #32 and ISU at #82, which is moving up from where we have been IIRC.

TCU has lost by 2 to ranked Teas A&M and beat Texas in Austin. I haven't seen them play and pretty much know nothing about them as a team. They had nobody on any of the pre-season teams. Tough two weeks coming for them @ISU @OU and than host Baylor followed by WVU.

OBJ Giving LSU players cash after game

Looks like the NCAA has another choice to make when it comes to disciplining a blue -blood. It's tough to tell if cash is real but here's my thoughts.
1.Why would OBJ carry fake cash?
2. The look Coy Wire (bald reporter) has o his face is like WTF!
3. The end of video regarding selling cleats and jerseys is a little concerning.

@Sigmapolis asks: Why do you all hate cats so much?
I love my fluffy kitty buddies so much.
Angie:
Cats are just sort of dicks. Which I can respect in people, but not something that I am actively spending my money keeping alive - I should get SOMETHING out of the deal.
Pants: It’s not that I hate cats, as I love all of God’s creatures (minus humans), it’s just more that they suck as pets.
GTO: I appreciate that cats are low maintenance, independent, and clean. Wouldn’t say I love them, but also don’t hate them. I guess I’m indifferent to them.

@jsb observed: I figured by this time I’d be a permanent member of the staff.
of course, I’ve always figured I’m a logical moderator on this board (can you imagine ME with the power to ban people?!?), so what the hell do I know.
Pants:
Honestly, I still can’t understand how I’m not a mod. I bring so much to the website yet am never rewarded for it, even with an honorary modship.
GTO: jsb with the power to ban people would make the website a dictatorship. JSBFanatic.com, where the only members would be jsb and the followers of jsb. All hail our new queen!
Angie: I only carry so much weight as far as that goes. But I carry other weight these days. Approaching middle age is rough. What was the question again?

@Dingus asks: Wtf is this thread about?
GTO:
Work Time Fun (WTF) is exactly what this thread is about. Good job figuring it out!
Angie: Don’t look at me. I’m just a guest. Or a-ghast, depending on the day.
Pants: What is “is?” A thing? A thought? A moment in time? An abstract concept? I think the greater question is “what is isn’t.”

@Doc looking for fashion advice: what are your thoughts on the Untuckit brand?
Angie:
I think that it can look really nice - but can’t you just ultimately wear any shirt untucked? Like, why does it have to be a special brand?
Pants: Hipster company trying to get people to spend money on something they don’t need and that nobody cares about.
GTO: Shirts for the rich douche demographic? Shirts for people who are too stupid to figure out which shirts should be tucked in and which ones should not be? Their stupid commercials remind me of TC Tuggers:

@GTO asks: Seeing the thread where someone found some strange medical device in their house, what is the weirdest thing you have stored in your basement (or just in your house in general, if you don't have a basement)? (non-sex toy, non-illegal)
Pants:
I move so often that it becomes hard to keep weird things, either intentionally or unintentionally. While I no longer have it, I was doing a deep clean on this last move and in a suitcase found a pair of an ex girlfriend’s underwear from someone I haven’t dated in like 4 years. Does that count? I no longer possess them, but definitely wasn’t something I expected to find.
Angie: Where were they? That might make the difference in how weird it was.
Pants: Like in one of the front pockets of a suitcase. It was my bigger suitcase that I rarely use, though, so other than actually packing it when I move, I don’t think I’ve used it in 5 or so years.
GTO: Probably some arcade parts. A few of them for games I no longer own or projects I haven’t gotten around to completing. Nothing as interesting as you two.
Angie: A bust of a bantha that we are going to hang in my son’s room. (I understood that to be a Star Wars thing when I bought it.) Or a lamp that I made out of a doll’s body (minus the head) for Halloween. There’s probably weirder stuff down there, though; that’s just off the top of my head.
