I hate spiders. But also know they get rid of ton of other insects and are good for a lot of reasons. I just don’t like them in the house.

What are solutions that actually work to keep them at bay as much as possible from being in the house and parts of the yard?

We have tried local pest control and it was fine but just expensive. Are there brands or products like Ortho that you swear by? What about peppermint oils etc as I’ve seen some say that might work.

We also need it to be pet friendly.

What is everyone's thoughts on the qualities and a net return calculation when they hiring an investment manager?

I have met a few people I like, but at the end of the day, it is hard to get around their fees. Let's say a 2% management fee plus X% (let's say 15%) profit fee. It becomes hard to see how they are going to net a better return than if I simply invest in the S&P.

The last 20 years has been pretty easy to be an investment manager, IMO. I think the market in the near future is going to be much difficult to find value, at least at the rate of return that has been experienced the last few years.

Also, the S&P is only an example. I personally think the S&P is currently overweight with Tesla, NVidia, and Apple. Making it less diverse than I would like. But I know little, which is evident by the questions above

With the "main sports seasons" out of the way, I've found myself some more free time and have started up a new book series: The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks. I'm only halfway through the first book, but it's got me locked in... excited to se where it goes.

Exciting part about this series, is that I know it is complete. I've given up hope on Rothfuss and RR Martin.

After this is done I'll likely throw in a classic or two to change it up. What's everyone else been reading?

Naturally, unless you're a subscriber it will be behind a paywall, but in case they're doing any sort of specials, like a week or even a few days free, it's worth the read.

Why Wofford's Evangelia Paulk chose to transfer to Iowa State women's basketball

I can't say I'm surprised because it seems like every show I get attached to is cancelled eventually, but I can see why they cancelled this one.

The show strayed too far from its premise of a mystery vigilante helping the oppressed or downtrodden when they had nowhere else to turn. They started delving too deeply into unrelated topics like social injustice, PTSD, teenage angst/rebellion and, most irritatingly, love interests. We had ongoing love stories involving our main character, Queen Latifa, and a police detective, Aunt Vi and a police captain, the teenage daughter and her boyfriend, and Mel and Harry, the Equalizer's staff, confidants and partners.

I'm sorry, but no one wants to watch love stories between two only marginally attractive 40- and 50-somethings, especially not in an action adventure TV drama. This final episode was 50 percent pitching and wooing, and only about 40 percent was dedicated to why I watched it in the first place. The other 10 percent was just plain nonsense (Mel and Harry: do we want to keep doing this? The daughter: Woe is me; I can't get into the school I want.)

Never thought I’d see the day where an ISU coach would again be considered one of the best in the country.

According to Iowa State's fact book (media guide) the Cyclones tied 46 games.

Against Marquette in 1951, Cyclone George Hess had 601 punting yards, were outgained 240-5, had 47 rushes for five yards, attempted zero passes and recorded one first down against Marquette in 1951.

Iowa State led 6-0 at half thanks to Bob Rohwedder's 42 yard pick six.



A 73 yard pass to Hilltopper freshman Ron Drzewiecki (drafted 11th overall in the 1955 NFL Draft) with about three minutes left tied the game at 6.

It’s gonna be awesome, on a streaming service I actually want anyway!

Preface: Fast approaching retirement, my wife desires to relocate nearer our young grandchildren in south-central MN. We're getting the house ready to market and our realtor has indicated we need to declutter. We're going thru rooms picking things to sell on FB Marketplace, and come across a 1950's desk which my wife wants to price at $50 to facilitate a quick sale.

I've had this desk forever, so I know it's a high quality piece of furniture with a solid walnut top slab. It's small but heavy. The manufacturer's name is in a drawer, American of Martinsville.

I do a quick web search and much to my surprise, find American of Martinsville is known for their quality MCM furniture which is "highly desired by millennials". I see their desks on-line priced between $1500 and $4000, with the name of a specific designer (Merton Gershun). I'd like to determine the model of my desk and whether or not it was designed by Mertun Gershun, but I can't find any American of Martinsville catalogs on-line. Mine appears to have some design elements in common with the Gershun desks, but I don't know what I'm looking at!

Is anyone here knowledgeable about MCM furniture, how to research it for the purpose of establishing a fair price, and where best to market it? Suggested prices would be well received!

Ch 5 is shutting off on our tv consistently the past few days. It’s the only channel with this problem. Our provider is direcTV via satellite. Anyone else having issues with the WOI feed?
