Read everything Jamie Pollard said in his statement regarding both basketball programs

Just curious - what was Pollard trying to achieve with this message? Trying to rally financial support for the basketball programs in time for the transfer portal to open next week?

A confirmation that next season will be CBF's last, plus a statement about how loyal ISU is to their long-time coaches? CBF didn't want to retire until his contract ran out, I'd guess. But it also reassures current and incoming coaches how loyal the university is to them, if they succeed here? /shrug

Clearly, this was about telling everyone that ISU is going to let Bill finish out his last year. It saves the school money to complete his contract. It's 1 year and ISU gets to move on in a different direction with the women's basketball team.

Pollard needs to quit trying to control the message and get back to work. He should be raising money and trying to elevate our status, rather than crying poor little ISU. Time for him to go.
I don't think it's time for him to go, but it's incredible how poorly he handles these things. We don't need a 7 minute state of the union every two weeks.

Yep.

And in general, the longer a Presidential state of the union...the worse or more scandalous I tend to believe things are. (I think the longest ones belong to Trump, Clinton, & Carter) all had/have major issues or scandals going on.

I also think it's bad sign when they are incredibly short too fwiw (Nixon had the shortest in modern times.)

Pollard needs to find a sweet spot/middle ground for these videos to Cyclone Nation. A medium length video once or twice a year would be great. I agree they're becoming too frequent.

The good thing about his "state of the unions" is he doesn't have to stop constantly for excessive applause or heckling, lol.

The entire video was 6 minutes and 42 seconds. How is this not a medium length video?

Also, they may seem too frequent, however, ISU Athletics has had 3 major events happen within the last 6 months that rarely happen, so the video's are justified IMO.

Damage control. Loses Matt and half the football team, loses the women's team minus an aging coach that is just burning it down as he leaves, lots of discourse about how he is handling financial decisions, new president. He's just trying to keep the lid on.

Deflecting attention from his own disaster by mentioning other schools is a childish approach; just worry about Iowa State University.
Especially silly to mention Iowa, who is maintaining the core of their team and the players leaving are looking for more playing time because they couldn't get any burn and they're bringing in another top ten recruit nationally. It makes us look like the minor leagues in comparison and is downplaying the team basically collapsing in on itself.

I get that JP's job is largely PR, but... woof.

This is what annoyed me about his video. He’s basically saying that “things could be worse, but they’re not so shut up!”
More and more Jamie is getting into the same boat as Bill- he’s done a lot of good, but I think the environment has passed him by some. We’re not all Sukups, Starks or Van Diests, but he really does take the small dollar donors and ticket holders for granted.

He's not deflecting. People are asking why these things are happening. He's answering the question by pointing out the NIL and the similar affects it's had on other schools. It's a valid and necessary point.
