Happy will take a discount to stay in Chicago. Suzuki will go market rate
Happ doesn’t have enough productivity potential to resign. He’s a great glove and a league average hitter. Suzuki is frequently referred to as the best hitter on the team. I’d try to pay Seya for four more years as guys like Shaw Ramirez and Conrad develop. Yes Conrad was finally activated.

If you let Imanaga. Taillon, Happ all walk. Sign Suzuki at market. Extend Rea and Kelly for same money. Get Boyd at a discount .You can afford Skubal.

Skubal, Boyd, Brown, Cabrera, Steele and eventually Horton is a great rotation. With Rea and Assad for depth and Wiggins at Iowa.

But if this is the case, why is it only impeding our success in soccer? Youth baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, hockey etc. is also just a cash sucking machine. We have structured youth sports across the board to maximize profit. We still compete and win at the highest level internationally in all those sports. Soccer is the lone outlier.
Uh, because nobody with the exception of a few very small countries play baseball/softball.

Volleyball the US is good and very competitive, but historically not among the top dogs based on a quick google search.

Basketball the US has the historical advantage of pioneering the sport. I honestly don’t know much about world wide basketball adoption. But in the US basketball is a close second to football is adoption. My one data point is South America where I know basketball has been growing in popularity, but adoption still pretty low. Maybe 5% or so of people actually play it.

Lastly, I really think this discussion needs to be move to its own thread.

Ugh. Are we back to that being the focus? That’s a downside of the program reset I hadn’t anticipated.
I see it more as “I was told the best way to win over the entire fanbase by week 2 is to beat the hawks” hes not giving bulletin board material to any conference opponents which is better I’d say. Also so the commenter that stated Matt took seven years to take the game serious I agree, the game means something to the fan base and should be important.

He makes some good points.

The question I’d ask him then, is why is America extremely successful in every other sport with the exact same youth development setup as soccer (including women’s soccer)? All American youth sports operate the same way as soccer.
How do other countries' youth systems operate? Are they government funded? Or do the soccer leagues fund them?
