High School Sports Thread

They should've added that "If any football program puts an 8th grader on the field on a Friday night, they must shut their program down, or combine with another school the following season."
Easy to say that from sitting in front of a screen, but for a lot of these small towns, sharing or combining
sports they see as the first stop toward consolation of the district. Now I am not saying that should not happen, but for many, they are going to do everything in their power to make sure that school can continue as long as possible.
The state has been trying to kill off small districts for a couple of decades with mixed results. Maybe they should have used some of that money going to private schools to encourage smaller public schools to merge.

Wouldn't be surprised if Shaw or Ramirez end up being included in any deal for a quality arm. Really only need one as a utility IF and Conforto can cover the corner OF spots if Shaw is dealt.

Just don't see much trade value among I-Cubs talent. So Shaw/Ramirez plus top low system players might be what it takes.

Also think Hoyer should get creative to find a RH hitting 1B to PH/spell Busch. Also injury protection if Cubs are serious about playoff run.
Yeah the I Cubs prospects are not going to net you much right now. Either they are not big enough prospects or some are/have been injured this year. Rojas is probably going to be in demand but it's going to have to be a big trade to let a 21 year old AA SS that is your top prospect go right now.

Not sure they will go out and get a guy to spell Busch as they technically have Tyler Austin for that barring he's healthy at some point to actually play in the 2nd half. Haven't seen any new updates on him but thought he was originally going to be back sometime in July? I think they may have given Johnathan Long a look by now if they were wanting an internal RH 1B on the bench. Busch is hitting LHP at a lot better clip than he has in the past now that he's playing nearly every day. I posted his splits a few weeks back but if you take a look at them compared to last 2 season they are much improved.

In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

It appears the city is going to foot the bill for clean-up, and they will solicit donations to rebuild.
Interesting, hope the city and people of Nevada can all come together and they rebuild better than before.

Shower Thoughts

Had a girlfriend when I was 18, and she went to Iowa U, while I went to a real university. She came to visit me for a weekend when my roommate was gone. Showed up at my door in Wilson Hall, and within five minutes wound up inviting herself to go into the men’s bathroom and take a shower. I never found out if anyone walked in while she was in there, but needless to say, I didn’t get any homework done that weekend.

DAILY CLONE: A Deep Dive into ISU's Frontcourt Depth (July 1, 2026)

Xzavion Mitchell isn't frontcourt, @JakeBrend ? Honest question, just wondering where he fits.
I believe he mentioned early in the video that he is viewing him more as a wing than a PF, at least for the sake of this analysis.

It seems to me he is kind of a hybrid 3/4, and the fact Jake felt the need to mention him here kind of aligns with that. I’m assuming he may talk about him in a future video about the guards. Agree it will be interesting to see how he fits in.
