Hate to say it, but with the NIL changes, schools like ISU might be better recruiting those 3-star and diamond-in-the-rough types.
Spend all your time and energy going after 4 and 5 stars and they will leave for better money the second one of the big boys comes calling. That will just keep throwing off our recruiting classes and rosters at the last minute, just like this situation. NIL has essentially turned collegiate sports into pro-sports.

You don’t have a clue about Central Florida and the money at that school.

Stop trying to pretend you do
Dude pay no attention to him. He spouts off all the time on here with an oozing amount of arrogance and “I am better than you all” attitude. NEVER admits he’s wrong and is a know it all. Just go read his posts.

The problem is that is what Campbell has done with success. They have gotten in early on guys, then when they get a ratings bump, the NIL vultures will come around. Not to mention with NiL the big boys will be able to operate as though there are no scholarship limits anymore and can offer lucrative walk on spots to more guys.

It's a heavy burden to carry when someone that so naturally has all the answers to the questions we ask and also the answers to the questions we never ask. Glad we have him. We're lucky he takes time out of his busy day to educate us.

The Gridiron Club is good but they present what a $350K check once a year to the AD for Football?

That's actually pretty pathetic, not by the Club, but by our donor base.
Most people on this board were pro NIL. Start writing checks everyone. Put your money and your mouth where your attitudes are.....

If you think it's a good thing then please contribute.

CGC would be the perfect vehicle. Make a donation and request it to be earmarked for NIL payments.

It really is simple.

Unfortunately, unlike the transfer soap box, JP being late to the game is really a setback here. It was going to be tough enough as it is, but JP being JP didn't help.

He also hasn't done much in 15+ years to improve the booster pool, despite it being the best ever time in Iowa St history for that to grow. You have to be willing to give up some power imo. He is much more comfortable accepting less with more while be unchallenged. He prefers the college athletics of last century imo, well, accept for the part in which ADs are now making $1+ million.
Wow .......talk about uninformed. Our numbers are still low but he has dramatically improved them.....3x more donors???

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Spent approximately $200 million on facilities during his tenure.

Clueless post.

We’re going to be more disadvantaged from the top of college football than we were in the 90s aren’t we. Guess NIL will ruin things for many other schools. Not sure college athletics will be any fun to follow in 10 years.
The overwhelming attitude on this board was pro NIL.

I suppose there will eventually be an NIL / Non-NIL split in the current FBS. The greedy programs (like OU and Texas) will spin off from every conference and be their own divison. When that happens, I will no longer have any interest in those teams or that semi-pro division (including Alabama).

Let's Go State!

I actually agree with NIL. I also think AD’s should absolutely pay taxes as well.

but it’s a reality, and I said it when Campbell was looking at usc. That’s unlimited NIL money there.

Iowa just had to guarantee an instate kid more money than anyone else was offering by a considerable amount, and that got his signature

People who root for Iowa State better realize this is the new world, and being cheap ass Iowa state fan no longer will allow you to be competitive

I still think it is wrong to prevent athletes from earning off of their own likeness. That doesn't mean I am not bothered by the free for all it has already become in the absence of sensible regulation. Many of these "deals" we are already reading about are amounting to straight cash payments that are not tied to promotions at all.

I don’t see how people didn’t see this happening. This is the legal version of the old southwest conference. Ad boosters are gonna pay to bring in the best players they can afford. 5 star culture is cool, but it’s not gonna take you very far.

i would love the see the deal Ewers got to go back to Texas.
