Wrestling Press Conference Scheduled for Tomorrow

Just curious, what was Ali's role prior to this? I heard Jamie mention her 'rock star' status in the CWC (I think) and she spoke of him 'hiring' her 3 years ago. Just wasn't aware she had an official role within the dept before.

I'm now off to find some videos of her old matches...
She was the Director of Donor Relations for CRTC. I do wonder who will slide into that role.

He was a little defensive about A/C lol. So what about gymnastics in particular was such an issue? He never says.
He made some implications without directly stating. I took his tone and implications as trying to portray that the team had serious internal struggles, went to the AD to try to solve, but all of the AD/Coaches/Athletes could not meet in the middle on what to do. Then leading to a meltdown/unrecoverable situation.

Are the womens wrestling NCAA championships locked into Iowa City for a number of years and does anyone have any idea if they could come to Ames?
I'm sure ISU will want in on it and once CyTown is complete, they will have incentive to bid very competitively to get it.

Will they really need that with Dresser in his new role? I would assume he may absorb that role.
Maybe part of Carr's role too? Maybe not though. It sounds more logistical and I bet you're right it'll be more dresser or maybe they'll back fill the role independently too.

Kyven has been working for the ISU Foundation. Maybe they bring him back into the wrestling fold.

Interesting details…

So Jamie sees the opportunity for a one year pause where what was gymnastics funding can be used to renovate spaces to prepare properly to get women's wrestling off the ground on a good foot as a smart approach, and he is probably right there.

He basically says women's gymnastics (particularly the athlete's families) didn't know their place in the heirarchy of athletics at ISU which was bad for cohesion in the department. Possibly true, but I don't know if I buy that totally. Regardless, ISU is a place that needs truly women's wrestling as a varsity sport and I am glad this is the moment they are able to make it happen, even if it comes at the ultimate expense of a struggling sport here.

Gymnastics parents and Cheer parents are a whole level of headache, I used to sit at competitions and be amazed by how they act. I can only imagine that gets magnified once they get to competing at college level.

I totally understand they could be a headache for Pollard, I just don't know how that translates to being a problem for the other 17 coaches at Iowa State. Not trying to drag us all back through it again, it just doesn't compute with me. I am very happy ISU will be offering women's wrestling, today is a very important day for the sport in this state.

Really? I’ve been to a ton of gymnastics meets and never seen anything unusual with parents behaviors. Nothing compared to what I’ve seen from wrestling parents.

We have a couple of friends that teach at ISU that had a a couple of gymnasts in each of their class. These gals specifically called out the coaching staff for all the problems. Just sounds like the coach was in over her head.

Why are we still bringing this up? The program is over and done for. Move on. The girls wrestling program is here.
