Behind you
Four movies that got rave reviews and did really well at the box office, but are complete crap:

Silver Linings Playbook
American Hustle
La La Land
The Thin Red Line (I don't think this one did great at the box office but was up for a number of awards)
I loved Playbook and Hustle. The scene where Bale's character is doing his hair is painfully fun.

I had long heard that "Manos, Hands of Fate" was the worst movie ever made. I finally saw it a little over a week ago. Yea, it's pretty awful.

He was certainly a brilliant comedian though his style just never resonated with me. He clearly had dramatic acting chops as well. RV is the last movie you would use as an example of either of those things, and it's not all on him. The movie is awful, I don't know who could have made it not awful.

I’m not one of those people who nerds out over this movie goes to the theater to throw spoons at the screen, but I lasted through half of “The Room” and that is the most poorly made movie I’ve ever seen.

I have posted about this before, but I certainly would not consider these the worst movies, but certainly movies that as someone that is not a movie nerd, and doesn't care about the mechanics of film-making, I really don't get the fascination with Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs. Deep down I think these are movies that way more people say they like than actually enjoy them. I think being of HS and college age in the 90s these were just movies you were supposed to think were genius. If you thought some characters' acting was terrible, that because QT meant for it to be that way, and here's some inside-baseball nerd explanation why.

I like both of those movies but get where you are coming from.

This sums up how I feel about movies like Snatch (terrible) or Fight Club. The latter seems to be a favorite for many people but I always thought the movie was dumb. It didn't help that Brad Pitt was in it, who for many years I always saw him as Brad Pitt playing Brad Pitt. Not until the Curious Case of Benjamin Button did I feel like I was seeing his character on screen instead of Brad Pitt.

You thought Fury Road was an all time bad movie?! Are you blind, deaf and dumb!!!!?
No, it's almost like this thread is a matter of opinion though. The movie had no plot and my wife actually fell asleep during it.

I like other movies like Back to the Future 2 and Independence Day that others hate. They aren't meant to be profound or life changing.

You don't like Old School? Something changed in you from the time you watched Back to School to the time you watched Old School.

No.

Old School, and basically every movie with Will Farrell in it, comes off as someone or something that's not really funny yet tries harder and louder to do so. The more it tries, the more it fails. That roof scene in particular was so outlandish and stupid that there was no comedic value.

It's a poor rehash of movies that were superiorly made and had superior comedic actors in them. That film should be destroyed forever.

The roof scene was dumb. The streaking scene was terrific, though.

It had the greatest stunts of all time in any movie... Just complete immersion into an alternate world. Tom Hardy. Charlize Theron... What?!?!?

One I haven't seen mentioned yet: Open Water.

Slow moving and remarkably boring with extraordinarily unlikable protagonists just floating about.

Dirty Dancing is SUCH a bad movie but such a one-liner and somehow managed popularity.

The part after the 'big dance' when the dad tells Baby how wonderful she looked up there really ties it together.

Yeah, tell your young daughter how great she looked up there in front of the whole country club, grinding on the 30 some year old playboy to some song from 20 years in the future.

My wife loves that movie. I do not. Teenage girl falls in love with 30 year old man. And helps some other girl get an abortion. And everyone's upset that the rest of the characters aren't on board with all this. And the dad is the bad guy somehow?

I know there's a point when you become an adult where you start siding with the parents, but that movie is just ridiculous.
