Earlier this morning I was talking to a former football player and he noticed me browsing on Cyclone Fanatic. One of the things he said that a lot of the players actually read what people on this site are saying, or at least they are told what the buzz is around the site. I won't name who but a very important player on this team was on the verge of quiting because of the things that are being said and the fan attitudes around him. Just remember, these kids are 18-22 years old. We have know idea what any of them are going through and we should try to keep things as positive as they can be, no matter how ugly things can get. So the next time you're about to ridicule a player for a play, or a game just remember your words have power.

I really don't think we at CF are all that harsh on our athletes. At least not for poor athletic performance. I would agree that when a player appears to have attitude problems we react disproportionately (BDJ, McKay etc.). But when it comes to on field performances, we're perhaps more understanding of failure than any other fan base.
I understand how the internet can come off as harsh as people say things behind a keyboard and may be more rude or disrespectful.
I understand we have a lot of difficulties on our football team. But color me as a trust the process guy. Football is a tough sport.
I just hope that all these kids are more concern about giving their 110% all 60 minutes every game and winning than worried what internet users are saying. I stand by these players in and out. In the end I blame coaches on losses.

I want to see Cyclones football players read mean CF posts - they can play the video at halftime.

Can't put the genie back in the bottle as far as the internet and anonymous chatboards are concerned. They need to quit reading or thicken the skin a bit. It's a mean, cold world.
I do think these boards do a good job of policing themselves though. Can't think of any wildly inflammatory posts about players that aren't immediately "shouted down" by other more positive posters.

I agree, and if you think this board is harsh against players you have not seen many other boards. This might be one of the tames forums out there.
For the most part.. i agree with you. Players already on the team that we have seen perform in actual games, get both criticism and praise. Both sides, often over the top to a degree.
What irritates me are some of the posts in recruit threads. There can be a lot of disrespect spewed at people we have not seen play a single snap in an ISU uniform.

This thread is the example that shows how light we are on players.
On a rougher board, post 2 or 3 would say "Tell that loser not to suck." Not because that's something we need to post, but someone would do it.

It's important to remember that a lot of stuff disappears from sight, but during busy times can stay up before a mod catches it.
Everyone can help by reporting obnoxious posts rather than quoting them.

This isnt unique, in that we aren't the only fan base to be critical of players, loses, and situations.
Can you imagine what is being said on the LSU site post game winning TD that was called back. Players can read all this stuff and this site as they like, but to take it to that point of quitting..... I don't believe that's why they want to quit.

I'm not sure why the "we aren't as bad as other fan bases" reasoning should matter.
I guess I find it surprising that they would actually look at this site. They have been raised in the days of social media and know how awful people can be online.
