Wilton Speight Transferring From Michigan

It's not like we aren't going to have the best RB in the country next year. All he would have to do is catch the snap and hand it to Montgomery

Totally agree. Moore will be back, itching for pt and Re-Al is going to be a stud.

No thanks. Leaving next season to Zeb and two guys who have combined to take a handful of snaps in spring practice is working without a net when you don't need to. If Park doesn't return I'd much rather have a grad transfer or a guy who went the juco route after a stint at a P5 school backing up Nolzand and pushing him in practice. Experience matters. Even Zeb got some garbage time reps before he was forced into action.

Agree, but the question remains whether a grad transfer is going to want to go to a school that will likely need him as a "body on the roster". I think that's unlikely.

Speight isn't looking at our QB depth chart without Park on it and thinking about anything other than winning the starting job. He's not scared of a guy who's started one game.

The people that are comfortable with Zeb and two guys who haven't even really practiced at ISU are nuts.

With the type of offense we've run this year, Speight could be a decent fit in our system. He'd also bring some more senior leadership to a team that is losing some significant culture guys.

Don't see how we wouldn't take another experienced qb if we can get one. Where would we be this year without 3 qb's? Guess I'm asking how good is Re-al? Been reading mixed messages on this board. No need to bring up experience, as he's obviously going to be an inexperienced true freshmen regardless of potential or talent.

Noland I agree on, but if this year told me anything, I am not banking on only having to use 1 QB and to have 2 freshman QB's (with no experience) as the backups.

I wish we knew when a decision on KK's sixth year would come down. If he gets one more year then I'm comfortable with what's returning at the QB spot next season. But if a decision isn't going to arrive until after spring practice then they need to make a move now. Going into next fall with only Noland plus two freshmen who have a handful of spring practice snaps between them is playing with fire.

Agreed. These coaches have some savvy, and I'm sure they already have a few names in mind.

Exactly the point I've been trying to make. This isn't a video game where experience doesn't matter. A grad transfer with the skill set of Speight (assuming Kempt doesn't get another year) would be HUGE for our roster. Experienced depth at QB will be a major factor in what we can do next year.

That's the complicating factor, though. If Kempt's status is up in the air for too long then ISU is going to be less desirable to guys who want to compete for the starting job. I'm assuming if they don't get someone relatively soon then it's a pretty good indicator that they're confident KK is going to get his sixth year.

I do agree 100% with you that there needs to be another experienced QB on the roster. Whether it's Kempt or a transfer remains to be seen.
