Will Hilton Magic Be Back?

The students behind the visitors bench, and the pep band in that corner as well, made it really tough on the opposing team - especially during time outs. They were literally surrounded.

Reality is that the big donors aren't going to give up those seats, period. And the athletic department isn't going to give up the revenue generated by the Applebee's Apple Shuffle or Pump up the Pasta/Burrito.

The "good old days" of Hilton Magic are gone but we can still go and make a lot of noise and influence the game.

I reject your reality and substitute my own:yes:

I believe the magic is back today. It is mental for us,the coaches and players. The need and desire for the mentality has returned. You know we will play hard nosed defense, you know we will run when we can, and frankly, for me, call me sentimental, but when Fred and Jeff walk on the floor, the Nation is reunited.
Fred will bring in a pair of x and o experienced Division 1 coaches to his staff, and he is a leader. Do not underestimate the value of Jeff Grayer to this effort. Personally, I get a smile just picturing the Kansas staff walking on the floor, and Jeff being there to welcome them.
Fred is respected. Fred has connections. Fred has unquestioned integrity, morals, and he wants it. Get behind it like you never have before!

I'm right there with you. There can't possibly be a game when we don't bring it as fans the entire game this year.
I want this generation of Jayhawks to understand that Hilton is not their house, but Hilton is where they come to see their winning streaks end. Hilton is where we beat them on national TV, because that's just how we roll.

I'm sorry but the people who thought of that Pump up the Pasta/Burrito promotion need to be fired. One of the worst ideas in the history of local advertising, only thing worse than that are the local "Bill" commercials. However there is truth to that in that money is king in collegiate sports and I think those will always exist, but maybe they could just mute the music, have the band play and have us students ruining our vocal chords.

QFT. I miss those days. Especially because I know a couple of Jayhawk fans and well...the best moment I've had with them this year was the UNI game.

Is anybody else relishing the thought of conference opponents walking into Hilton next year, being taken aback and saying to themselves "what the hell happened to this place?!"

Nope... this is already a complete failure. :realmad::jimlad::wacko::arghh:

Hell yes he can bring it back. HM was in existance long after Johnny left as well. Alive and well under Floyd and the beginning of the LE tenure. Even reared it's head briefly during Morgan's years.

HM isn't about the guy on the sideline, it's about the fans and their passion to will the team to victory. I have to believe that with the hiring of Freddy, ISU fans are every bit as pumped about future of ISU bball as they were when Johnny came on the scene. Certainly more than when Tim or Larry were hired. I can feel the electricity of that first game, and it's still 6 months away.

Problem is the team needs to respond, and that hasn't happened recently. At some point - the fans need to be rewarded for THEIR efforts, otherwise that effort won't be there next game. After the past few years... it's no wonder it's all but dead. Students aren't showing, fans aren't showing. Those that do are more often than not sitting on their hands.

I have little doubt Freddie will instill confidence and work ethic - even if we worry about his initial X and O ability. And what he can instill will result in true, hard-nosed effort in the players. ISU fans recognize and appreciate that effort. And then inside that building.... things happen.

I personally think the new scoreboard has sucked some of the life out of the crowd. It draws your attention away. The scoreboard should be for showing scores and maybe replays. Let the team be our entertainment. That said, I think we can get the magic back, and saw glimpses of it during the Texas game.

Tons of lip service can be applied here about Hilton Magic. The only thing that will get it back is - winning. And to really get it back, win games at home you were not expected to win - or were down late in the game only to come back and win.

How often has that happened int he last 4-7 years? And how good has Hilton Magic been in that same time span?

Yeah, the two are 100% directly linked - period.

Sigh....

Don't make me go on my old-timer what Hilton Magic really is rant. The Magic helps cause the wins it is not caused by them.

And how did Hilton Magic start? Certainly didn't come from losing, losing, more support, losing and then eventually helping cause some wins.

It came from winning and was reinforced by larger crowds and a more intimidating home environment. That helped create wins for ISU late in games.

It's a two-way street.

You first have to have hope to win - that comes first with winning. Then you have Hilton Magic, which helps you get wins that you otherwise wouldn't get.

From what I can tell, Hilton Magic didn't spring too many upsets Orr's first three years at ISU. However, it was being founded at that time. Once ISU actually had the ability to compete and win, Hilton Magic was able to push it over the top.

Like I said - two-way street. ISU has to be competitive before Hilton Magic can "cause" the wins.

+1 They do feed off each other but there is more to it than just ISU going out there and beating teams.
