Why would anyone play FB at ISU?
Well that's a pretty dumb answer to the question.
ISU averaged 54,000+ fans (more than 3 other Big 12 teams and nearly as many as K-State) and the team was an awful 2-10. About 97% of capacity.
Oklahoma, who is the #15 ranked team, averages less than 10,000 per game.
But good comparison dude.
Every game I've seen there this year has more empty red seats than fans.
This. OSU game was even worse right after this game.

Yeah the crowd for the OSU game was just as bad if not worse. Everyone in Oklahoma must have went up to Wichita to watch the Shockers get lucky against Alabama.

Yeah, when we're winning those seats are all full.
The issue with OU basketball is they can have a pretty good team and still no one shows up.
That picture was from a game on Sunday afternoon, November 23rd versus Northwestern State. A reported attendance of 10,000+. The play by play of the game shows that Cousins made a three at 15:39 left in the first half. That looks like what is on the game clock above the shot clock. Since this is right in the heart of the first half, I think their reported attendance may be WAY off.
Attendance is bad at all but the primary basketball schools, like yours, Ku and Wichita. K-State, Missouri, oSu, OU, UT - they all suck this time of year. People are still focused on football. Students don't give a crap about watching their boys play Lipshitz U. Locals sit in the La-Z-Boy drifting between channels and momentary naps as commercials play ad nauseum on the 52 incher. Basketball is a second-tier curiosity for most college fans until conference play. And attendance right now is a reflection of that.
Basketball has been an afterthought at UT for as long as I have been in Texas (20 years) and probably long before that. But it also seems to be losing popularity at OkSU and OU over the last 5-10 years, even during conference games. It certainly could be due to the OKC Thunder. Also, OkSU got good at FB, and Sean Sutton/Travis Ford haven't been doing that program any favors relative to the success that Eddie Sutton had.
Went down to see the Clones there last year, paid $6.00 on stubhub to get in. The guy next to me said that he was embarrassed by the BB crowds but the reason was that to get points for season FB tix you have to buy BB tix. That's why they claim 10,000 with an empty arena, it's seats sold not turnstiles.
