Why is life worth living?

So need to vent a bit as life is but a **** show.

So far this year we’ve had to replace our furnace and AC (30k), roof (50k), water heater and softener (4k) and washer and dryer (2k).

That’s in 5 months.

We started the year feeling like we were maybe half way out of the mile deep tunnel we were in only to be pushed down a couple miles deeper. I don’t know bout y’all but we were already treading water and now we have a **** ton of new loans added on top. I may test out the new roof:)

Anyways, just venting like we all do in this thread. Love you all.

Oh forgot to add. Our tax returns are being audited suddenly and our startup Pokemon shop on eBay to try and make some money go to be great and had 8,000 all 5-star reviews. eBay terminated due to a bank document error on their end and even after AG involved they won’t reconsider as it would break their no appeal policy. So we’re officially dead.
Very sorry about all of this. I've had times when it feels everything is slamming at once. It's no fun at all.

Wow. Ok, I got mine replaced 6 years ago for 5k. Crazy what a few years can do to prices.
A friend got both their furnace and AC replaced for around $8,000 a couple months ago. Very standard suburban home in central Iowa, probably 3,500 sq ft finished. They didn’t go with anything premium but had a local company do it (not just some random guy), it’s properly sized, and it’s a very standard name brand system (I don’t remember specifically but it was a brand I was familiar with).

3,500 is getting pretty big. I think the typical Iowa home is more like 1,200 - 1,500 but maybe that's a completely finished basement? or maybe I'm one of the poors lol.

Yep it’s a completely finished basement, mother of the wife lives in the basement. I was more saying average size for a suburban home in central Iowa (built in the last 30 years or so), but you’re probably right even by those standards it’s on the bigger size.

I have to correct it. That was the first thing in the year so I didn’t have their number right it was around 18k for the furnace and air conditioner. The rest I know because they’ve happened in the last 2 months.

Can you restart the eBay business under a new name or under another owner ( your wife or someone)? Sorry to hear about all of these troubles.
Unfortunately, no and we’ve had the Attorney General and Better Business Bureau involved. What happened is we were trying to actually make things more formal by making an LLC as I found somebody that was going to help provide some money upfront so we could get more cards and actually try to make a few dollars. In order to change to an LLC on eBay, you have to upload a document from your bank FBS in this case. Unfortunately, FBS had the LLC’s EIN pull from my wife’s Social Security number. We identified this and had FBS provided update however they took the extremely lazy route and instead of updating the document they had somebody paste the correct number and a white box over the old number in a PDF. So the document that we uploaded looked suspicious. eBay flagged it, and instead of setting the flag to reach out and get updated documentations. They accidentally flagged it as confirmed fraud. Which, according to their boards policy does not have an appeal process. So even though they admit they were wrong. Their response to the AG was that an exception to this policy would put their business at risk because others would expect the same.

And it happened at the end of all these other things going wrong so all along we were hoping we could ramp this up and try to make enough money to at least pay down part of a couple of the loans. Obviously that’s not gonna happen now and because eBay won’t revisit the store being shut down they won’t pay out the $15,000 of ours they have from earned card sales that just hadn’t been paid out yet. So we lost the store and our avenue for making money well also being out the $15,000 until after it goes through the state stale money process, which is three years from now.

If you call eBay, and walk them through this process, there’s a really good chance they’ll reinstate the account. They look at the account as a whole, especially since you’re doing a frequent amount of transactions, and I would assume based on my limited knowledge of Pokémon cards some of them are higher dollar transactions, that plays into and kind of trips, their internal “fraud” alarm. At the end of the day, eBay wants you to use their platform so if you can provide everything, they need to remove the flags, chances are good theyll reinstate everything. You might need to develop Ein number just for your LLC, but that part is easy and can be done online. I had to do the same.

This also strikes me less as a customer service appeal type issue, and more of a arbitration rights type issue, which you do have the ability to do under eBay‘s user agreement

Must have been more than just a shingle job
Also depends on the location of the property, the quality of the roofing materials used, the height of the building, and the square footage of the roof surface.
But yeah...50k is about double the high end of the cost (per my friend who roofs houses, and was helping when our roof was hail damaged).

My god things have become expensive. I just looked at my receipt from 2017, and a complete roof replacement with GAF Timberline HD shingles cost my $8750.

In 2021, we replaced our Furnace/Air for $11k
