Why do I hate the Hawks so much?

I'm 65 years old and I'm just trying to figure out why I hate the Hawks so much. I'm even rooting for the Cornhuskers over them!
What are some of your reasons you hate the Hawks so much?

I am the same. i am 52. I can't stand them. I think it boils down to the 15 year football streak they had against us and the crap we took from their fans during that era. It was brutal. Being laughed at by them, being ridiculed by them. All of that. I am 100 percent rooting for Nebraska.

I hate Iowa with the fire of a thousand suns, primarily due to:
  • The aforementioned insufferable fans, most of whom have no connection to the university other than living in Iowa. Delusional. Arrogant. Rude. Top-shelf douche canoes. Actually, I find that some of the most tolerable and rational ones are actual alums.
  • The state-of-Iowa media boot licking of EIU. There are plenty of ISU journalism grads -- did they all leave the state? Pandering to the literally uneducated masses, I guess.
And I grew up an Iowa fan in Eastern Iowa before attending Iowa State. It takes very little time to develop a deep hatred for Iowa once you look at things a little differently. I wish them nothing but losses and more lawsuits in every sport for eternity. **** Iowa.

There is not much to like.

I got really tired of being lectured that I should cheer for CC. I'll cheer for who I like and it certainly won't be a Hawkeye. I don't remember anyone out east cheering for Troy Davis.
Especially a whiny **** Hawkeye.

The McCaffrey regime was very hateable. I miss that big time.

McCollum, on the other hand, seems like a good coach and the team plays hard and doesn't seem to be a bag of dicks. I was excited to see them take down a toxic SEC school last night.

Football is still very hateable with Ferentz and co.

Hawkfans ALWAYS AND FOREVER hateable.
Stirtz is becoming hateable. He said last night that when at Drake they didn't have a strength coach so it was nice having one since being at Iowa. Lies. Drake has a strength coach...multiple coaches in fact. I don't know why he would say that.

At your age, a good portion of the fans from the 80's and 90's were insufferable.
Such a different environment back in the 80's in the Jim Criner football era when I was at ISU ... we were basically never on TV for any sports that I can remember, but it seemed like every Iowa game was on. All of the local news sports broadcasts were all about Iowa. This bred a whole generation of Hawkeye bandwagon jumpers that never went to school there. Every year, Iowa would come in and pound us mercilessly in football and the stands would just be full of annoying Hawkeye fans. It was real easy to grow to hate them.

The first bullet point is it for me. The loudest, most entitled fans are nothing more than t-shirt fans who have no formal ties to the university. Most of the actual Iowa grads I know are only casual fans of their athletics.

I'll just say it: I selfishly hate that Iowa won yesterday because it basically stole our thunder with local media coverage. We played a great game and the attention was on us. No one expected Iowa to beat Florida and now that they have it's not only a big story because 9 beat 1 seed but because Iowa basketball has sucked for so long that it took McCollum just 1 year to do something no coach has done there since Dr Tom did in 1999.

Waiting to see if/who the local stations send to cover both teams in the Sweet 16 as I know lately seems like the local TV stations can't get approved to send someone to cover things like bowl games or NCAA tournaments. Would piss me off though if they their "B team" to cover use over Iowa even with ISU playing closer in Chicago. We've had the better season and I can only imagine how much some of the local media is going to jerk off to Iowa winning this game now and ISU becomes the lesser talking point.

I am definitely rooting for Fred to beat them. I view Nebraska basketball a little differently than their football as their basketball has sucked for so long while their FB fans still are living in the glory days of the 90's. I can stomach rooting for Fred when their program has never won anything meaningful up until this point.

It 100% has to do with the fact that everyone thinks it is weird that our nickname is a weather event but our mascot is a bird but NO ONE thinks it is weird that their mascot is a bird but their nickname is the internal organ of that same bird.

No one ever stops to consider that cardinals are swept up and contained in nearly every major Iowa state tornado, just like a pair of hawk eyes are found inside nearly every hawk in Iowa.

We should change the name of the Cy-Hawk series to the Two Strange Containers series.

If only the UNI Panthers mascot were a Bulldog or the Drake Bulldogs mascot a dog poop emoji would this all come full circle.

But the hatred runs deep.

No, it's even dumber than that. The Hawkeyes are named after Hawkeye from The Last of The Mohicans. The author was from Iowa. Hence the state nickname.

They also literally copied the Pittsburgh Steelers uniforms, and they make fun of us for not having a "classic" look to ours.

Um, whut? James Fenimore Cooper was born in New Jersey and died in New York State. It is unlikely he ever set foot in Iowa, which was a state during only the last five years of his life.

We are known as the Hawkeye state because of Chief Black Hawk.

Eastern Iowa U are known as the Crybaby Wussies because they are.

1000%. End of thread.
This. There seems to be some sort of genetic coding that makes them think differently…in delusional ways. It’s not a difference in picking Iowa or Iowa State. There’s something else going on there that I can’t and perhaps don’t want to full understand. The fact that they travel in herds adds to the intrigue and aggravation.

Maybe he meant they didn't have a strength coach dedicated to basketball? I'd find that unlikely for a D1 program, but I don't know what Drake's working with. Bizarre comment nonetheless.

Stirtz still looks like he doesn't have a strength coach.
