Why do I hate the Hawks so much?

I'm 65 years old and I'm just trying to figure out why I hate the Hawks so much. I'm even rooting for the Cornhuskers over them!
What are some of your reasons you hate the Hawks so much?
Well I'm older than you and I bet I despise them twice as much as you. Idk. Either just the color of the jerseys, the constant love affair the media has for them, their arrogance, most of the coaches, idiot fans, the list goes on....... FYI Since there has to be a winner, go huskers.

Being older I think I could root for the squawks if it was not for their fan base. They continue to think that Iowa City and the University of Iowa is the Mecca of the world and everything evolves around them. But Ames is a crap hole and ISU is basically a junior college attitude they have. I root for two teams, ISU and whoever is playing the squawks, hope the Major just crushes them and their hopes and dreams of getting to the final four.

I wasn't a huge basketball fan until I went to ISU in the mid eighties in the Johnny Orr, Hornacek, Grayer days. Grew to live for Cyclone basketball and understand the rivalry with Iowa, but it took that Hawkeye d-bag Jeff Moe to really cement my hatred for them. I'm definitely one of those terrible human ISU fans that root against the Hawkeyes in every game, every sport. If you were there for the Jeff Moe games at Hilton, there's no way you could ever be a "root for the Hawkeyes except when they play the Cyclones types". I've raised both my kids to share these feelings ... very proud of that.
Damn, it's like I am looking in a mirror. I am every thing you stated also (age, kids, feelings).

Worst fans in the world. Arrogant and stupid. Talk like they're one of the big dogs in the college world. I can't name a single alum in my town, yet they talk about how well "we" played and "our" boys looked good. Farm town btw. Iowa State is infinitely more important to their livelihood than Iowa.

Two words: Hayden Fry
Same. Grew up in that era. He hated ISU. A late career example of his - Tim Dwight was in the game in a blowout in the 4th quarter in 1997. He caught a long TD pass to put the up something like 56-7. Combine Fry’s success with their fans = lifelong animosity as a Cyclone.

I’m close in age to the OP and grew up in Eastern Iowa. I was a “as long as they’re not playing the Cyclones” fan. Then Ronnie Harmon fumbled 4 times in the Rose Bowl and had a grin ear to ear. I snapped that day and never again rooted for iowa.

I hate them all from the bottom of my heart. Even the ones who say "I pull for Iowa State when they aren't playing Iowa" are ass holes because they're 100% lying. These are people who called us horrible people for cheering against Caitlin Clark "because she's good for the state and game", yet turn around and mock Audi for her size.

There is not much to like.

I got really tired of being lectured that I should cheer for CC. I'll cheer for who I like and it certainly won't be a Hawkeye. I don't remember anyone out east cheering for Troy Davis.

Yep. Never really had any issue at all with the players or coaches there, except Fran was fun to make fun of, but the fans are the worst.

And they are our rival…. we aren’t supposed to like them. If they do well.. it hurts us in many ways.
Idk old Raisin face tried to bring ISU down through state governance. No me gusta.

My dad was an ISU grad (and he taught me well)... I still do this to this day.... When he would walk into a store and see a Hok shirt on a rack, he would turn it around so only the back of the shirt would be showing. He walked out of a Scheels one day with a whole section of only Black and yellow plain shirts showing after reversing the shirts.

I like to think he smiles at me from heaven when I go in and do the same stunt.
