But isn’t the algorithm the thing saying based on the information it has about you or me, it predicts that we’re more likely to engage with certain content
Nah, algorithm = pattern to solve a problem. X, Google and others have 1 algorithm for everyone.

Unless you’re in the room with Cauchy or Rosenblatt it is probably OK to use “algorithm” colloquially to mean the recommendation engine that sends me AITA stories.

Is there a better term for how social media decides whether or not I want to see Taylor Swift news? Cause I’d be more than happy to use proper terms.
Recommendation engine. Engagement model.

I’d probably just stick to algorithm unless you’re talking to Titan.

I don’t think my algorithm sends me any Taylor Swift? Until now of course, since I opened this thread. Thanks.

I think for me it’d be Pat McAfee. Since my algorithm is mostly sports, someone thinks I want to see what he thinks. And they’re wrong.
Pretty close. For me, it's Stephen A Smith

Not sure that’s really true now with machine learning.
It is. If we get to AGI that might change. Even then it doesn't inherently change the definition of algorithm. But I'll shut up, I'm not that smart.

Back before I proposed, all I got was ring ads before I even started looking at rings. Then after I got a ring, all I got was men’s ring ads. Now I get neither. It listens.
